Acer palmatum 'Kawahara no midori' is a fast growing, upright Japanese maple with bright green leaves and bright green bark. You may be familiar with coral bark Japanese maples, but did you know there are also Japanese maples with green bark? Many Japanese maples have a greenish bark when they are young, but its a much more natural looking green. 'Kawahara no midori' has bright green bark that actually stands out in a crowd of other plants. The leaves of 'Kawahara no midori' are green in the spring and summer and turn bright yellow in the fall.

A fast growing cultivar that comes out more orange red than purple red in early spring but rapidly darkens as it is exposed to the spring sun, 'Oshio beni' is a strong grower. It will not hold it's color as long into the hot summers of the Southeast as well as some other cultivars, turning green by late June in Atlanta. What 'Oshio beni' lacks in summer color it more than makes up for in the fall when the foliage turns a bright orange red. The name means the great red tide.

Acer palmatum ‘Oki kasane’ is a member of the Corallinum group of Japanese maples. All of these Corallinum type Japanese maples leaf out very early in the spring, and when they do, ‘Oki kasane’ has beautiful peachy orange foliage. This incredible color typically holds through April. The colors then transition to orange and then eventually green by the end of May. Much like other Corallinum type Japanese maples and maybe more than the others, ‘Oki kasane’ will usually push new growth in the summer which resembles the bright orange-red foliage of spring. This new growth on top of the olive green foliage is extremely attractive. Fall color is then orange to red.
