Acer palmatum 'Mikawa yatsabusa' Dwarf Japanese Maple
from $39.00
One of the best dwarf maples, 'Mikawa yatsubusa' is very slow growing with closely arranged leaves that create a wonderful stubby upright tree. Short inter nodal lengths with leaves that layer over one another not only define this elegant small tree but make it difficult to propagate and quite rare in nurseries. Fall color can range from bright yellow to spectacular red. This great little plant was found in the 1970s in the Tōkai region of Japan and named after the old Mikawa province there.10 year size: Height: 3-4 Feet Width: 2-3 Feet

Acer palmatum 'Mikazuki' Reticulated Japanese maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Mikazuki’ is an outstanding Japanese maple with reticulated variegation. ‘Mikazuki’ emerges in spring with bright pink color that is rivaled by only a few Japanese maples. ‘Mikazuki’ has very thin leaves and jagged edges that are very reminiscent of many of the “ghost” varieties. The leaves of ‘Mikazuki’ turn green in the summer while maintaining that reticulated variegation and prominent veining. By fall, these leaves then change to a yellow color which is always interesting on a predominantly red tree. Acer palmatum 'Beni otake' Red Bamboo Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Beni otake’ translates to red bamboo, which aptly describes this maple from the linearilobum group. The leaves are a little wider and sturdier than other linearilobum maples. Foliage emerges medium red in spring holding its color well into summer before first bronzing and then turning green. The interesting thing is, as you watch this tree from spring until summer the colors seem to be slightly different, displaying beautiful reds, purples and pinks from week to week, day to day or even hour to hour. In late summer new red growth pushes out of the top of the tree that is now green, giving it a very interesting appearance. Fall color is a really nice crimson. Growing faster than most linearilobum types, ‘Beni otake’ becomes a beautiful vase shaped tree eventually becoming slightly more round topped with age. The distinctive look and it's ability to tolerate full sun even in warmer climates make 'Beni otake' a perennial favorite.

Acer palmatum 'Beni shien' Variegated Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Beni Shien’ is possibly the most unique maple introduced in the last fifty years. Harold Johnson of Tallassee, Alabama introduced this wonderful variegated Japanese maple born of the south and then gave it a Japanese name that translates to red smoke. The deeply divided leaves emerge more purple than anything else, but will have cream markings starting at the base of the leaf and extending along the margins of most of the lobes. In summer the purple of spring will change to olive green in more shade or bronze in more sun. In late summer new red growth will pop out all over the plant. Fall color is usually orange or red. Acer palmatum 'Twombly's Red Sentinel'
from $39.00
‘Twombly’s Red Sentinel’ is a great introduction discovered as a witches broom on a 'Bloodgood' by Ken Twombly of Twombly Nursery, Monroe Connecticut. Much more vigorous than most witches brooms, 'Twombly's Red Sentinel' quickly develops the upright columnar habit for which it has become famous but will widen some with age. New leaves appear crimson red then quickly darken to burgundy but as this plant almost always seems to be growing it has a two toned effect most of the year. 'Twombly's Red Sentinel' holds it's color all year in many climates and well into the year even in hot climates, tolerating full sun as far south as Atlanta Georgia. Fall color is a spectacular red and the dark red stems of the last new growth even add interest to the winter landscape.

Acer palmatum 'Manyo no sato' Variegated Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Manyo no sato’ is a wonderfully funky maple with the Japanese name that means "village of 10,000 leaves". ‘Manyo no sato’ is very similar to 'Beni shien'. In early spring the irregularly shaped leaves emerge cream and purple. Leaves become more purple and green with cream before the purple starts to fade in summer. While fairly sun tolerant this cultivar prefers some shade in hotter climates. In more sun the red colors become more prominent while in more shade the variegation becomes much more subtle. Fall color is red to orange and very pleasing.10 year size: Height: 6-8 Feet Width: 4-6 Feet

Acer palmatum 'Ikandi' Variegated Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Ikandi’ is an extremely variegated Japanese maple discovered as a chance seedling from Acer palmatum ‘Alpenweiss’ by Talon Buchholz. The leaves on ‘Ikandi emerge almost entirely pink before the green and white develop around the veins. The pink variegation fades to green and creamy white by summer time and eventually will turn orange to red in the fall. ‘Ikandi’ needs to be protected from the hot afternoon sun, but morning or dappled sun help to provide excellent color to the variegated leaves in the spring. Variegated leaves on ‘Ikandi’ develop more as it matures, so be patient with this one and you will reap the beautiful benefits in the long run. ‘Ikandi’ will grow into a small to medium sized tree that should only reach eight to ten feet tall at maturity. 10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum 'Red Emperor' Red Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Red Emperor’ Japanese maple was originally introduced by Dick Wolff at Red Maple Nursery in Pennsylvania as Emperor 1 in 1976 and much later patented under that name by someone in Oregon. Many growers grow this plant as 'Red Emperor'. It does not matter what you call it, this is a great plant. It is one of many in a long line of trees to claim the title "Better Than Bloodgood" and in some ways it is. 'Red Emperor' Japanese maple does not burn in full sun in the Southeast, as to how well it holds it's color, we find that in some landscapes it does as well or better than other cultivars but in other situations it seems to turn green a little quicker. We have yet to determine what causes this. Either way, this tree will not disappoint you. Another advantage is that it usually leafs out a few days later than 'Bloodgood' in the spring lessening the chance of frost damage. The growth rate of 'Red Emperor' Japanese maple is very good, spring color is dark purple and fall color is bright red.

Acer palmatum 'Nuresagi' Red Japanese Maple
from $39.00
'Nuresagi' also known as, the 'Wet Heron' maple is very fast growing especially when young. Younger plants tend to put on vertical growth faster than most varieties we grow, sometimes running out 3-4 feet upright leaders in one season. Of course it does not grow at this rate every year. The long leaders will spend some time filling out before sending out more vertical growth. Very nice white striations also appear on the bark of older wood. The name 'Wet Heron' comes from the blue cast created by silver pubescence covering the deep red leaves when they emerge in spring. This reminded the Japanese of the 19th century, of a wet heron. 'Nuresagi' was listed in nursery catalogs as early as 1882.
