According to Yano, Acer palmatum ‘Sawa chidori’ is a Japanese introduction dating back to 1988. The foliage is green and white reticulated with red, pink or even peach highlights in early spring. 'Sawa chidori' prefers partial shade in most climates. Fall color is orange. The Japaneses name means Marsh Plover which is a wading bird.
