Grafted Trees

Acer palmatum ‘Nanyat’ is a small growing, upright Japanese maple with crinkled green leaves. This is a very unique Japanese maple variety not only for the unusually leaf shape that is reminiscent of Shishigashira, but ‘Nanyat’ also has bright green bark that really shows out during the winter months. The fall color of this interesting new Japanese maple variety is mostly a bright yellow that really stands out in the landscape. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet   Width: 4-6 feet 

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Green Cushion' is a dwarf variety of Hinoki cypress. 'Green Cushion' is a very slow and small growing conifer. 'Green cushion' grows into a small bun shape that will look somewhat like a pin cushion. This is probably the smallest plant we grow at Maple Ridge Nursery. 'Green cushion' has soft emerald green foliage that is very attractive. This is a great dwarf conifer for rock gardens. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-12 inches   Width: 1-2 feet

Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Baby Blue Ice' is a tight pyramidal Sawara cypress with bright blue color. This is one of the bluest trees that we grow at Maple Ridge Nursery. This blue color provides a major contrast to all other traditional colors in the landscape.  10 Year Size: Height: 3-4 feet   Width: 2-3 feet

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Aurora' is a hinoki cypress with golden yellow color. 'Aurora' typically grows with a rather conical habit and stays small into maturity only growing a couple feet tall. 'Aurora' has soft foliage typical of a hinoki cypress and really shines in the landscape with its yellow color.  10 Year Size: Height: 1-3 feet   Width: 1-2 feet

The 3 long lobes on the leaves of ‘Naruto Kaede’ all tend to curl inward so that both the dark green top of the leaf and the glossy back of the leaf are visible giving the tree a very unique striking appearance. This effect becomes even more dramatic in full sun which causes the leaves to curl even more. This look prompts some visitors to the garden to suggest that this plant could use more water. 'Naruto kaede' is fairly fast growing and vase shaped at least when young. Older specimens can reach 60 feet. ‘Golden Pharaoh’ is a trident maple that leafs out with bright yellow leaves with green veining in the spring. This reticulation fades as the temperature rises and the leaves turn to a light green color in the summer. Acer japonicum ‘Meigetsu’ is a vigorous growing full moon Japanese maple with large, round leaves. ‘Meigetsu’ emerges in the spring with large, light green leaves. These leaves then darken to a dark green for most of the summer. Fall is when ‘Meigetsu’ puts on a show. Much like other full moon Japanese maple varieties, ‘Meigetsu’ has splashes of yellows, oranges, and reds across the foliage in the fall. The name ‘Meigetsu’ translates to “moon” in Japanese. 10 Year Size: Height: 10-12 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Very nice small shrub type maple that will grow as wide as tall, 'Chishio' emerges in spring with red tips to the leaves before turning green for the summer. Leaves are very small. Fall color ranges from red and yellow to orange.           10 Year Size:  Height:  3-4 Feet    Width: 3-4 Feet

'Beni hime' is a great, very small maple that comes out a bright red in spring. After the first big push on new grafts, which can be 4 to 6 inches long, 'Beni hime' becomes one of the slowest growing maples with annual growth rarely exceeding 1-2 inches. As the weather gets hotter in summer the older leaves turn dark green while the ever present new growth on the tips tends to stay bright red, although it seems quite ironic that a tree that stays so small should always have new growth. Beni hime is one of the best small plants for the landscape but always seems to be in short supply due to the fact that it can be difficult to propagate. 'Aratama' is a very unusual, very attractive dwarf maple. In early spring the brick red leaves appear to be clumped on the long horizontal branches. As summer comes along the leaves change to a dark almost olive color and then to gold and orange in the fall. 'Aratama' means uncut gem which fits wonderfully because this little maple greatly benefits from occasional pruning of its sometimes unruly branches.10 year size: Height: 3-4 Feet   Width: 3-4 Feet

Very similar to Higasi yama in spring color but more compact, this small vase shaped tree arrives in spring with an explosion of color.  Introduced by Bob Baltzer, owner of Baltzer's Specialized Nursery in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, Alpenweis means "Alpine white."  Fall colors include a wonderful blend of amber, red and gold.10 year size:  Height: 7-9 Feet   Width: 4-5 Feet

Pinus strobus ‘Nana’ is a dwarf form of Eastern white pine. ‘Nana’ forms an evenly shaped tree in both height and width. The foliage of ‘Nana’ has a soft, fluffy appearance with longish blue-green needles. ‘Nana’ translates to dwarf which makes sense for this attractive little Eastern white pine. While ‘Nana’ stays small, it does get large enough to potentially be a centerpiece in smaller landscapes.10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 4-6 feet
