Acer palmatum 'Okukuji nishiki' is a fantastic variegated Japanese maple with pink and white edges to otherwise light green leaves. This variegation typically transitions to a creamy white in the summer giving 'Okukuji nishiki' excellent variegation through the spring and summer. Acer palmatum 'Orange Flame' is a Japanese maple with fantastic fall color. 'Orange Flame' has narrow leaves with deeply divided lobes which gives it a different texture than the majority of upright growing Japanese maples. These leaves emerge in the spring with a green and bronze color that matures to a solid green color later in the spring. Fall is when 'Orange Flame' puts on a show. Acer palmatum 'Oregon Sunset' is a unique variety of Japanese maple in that it has broad leaves but grows as much laterally as it does upright. The leaves are a very pinkish red in the spring and eventually turn red then burgundy. Even during the summer when colors are the most muted there is still hints of dark red in the leaves. The leaves then turn bright red in the fall.

What's in a name? Everything, the name says it all, well almost. Acer palmatum ‘Peaches and Cream’ starts with rosy peach color washed over creamy white foliage. Then, add in the green veining and you have a total show stopper in the garden. In summer, the peach fades leaving a nice white reticulated leaf that holds well in all but the hottest climates. Fall color is a pastel yellow to orange and very nice. Acer palmatum ‘Pendula Angustilobum’ is a fast growing lace leaf with yellow-green leaves in the spring. These leaves turn to a light green in the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Phantom Flame’ is a rare and unusual Japanese maple with a unique combination of “ghost” and “red finger nails“. ‘Phantom flame’ has bright white foliage in the spring with green veining. These bright leaves look as though they have been dipped in red paint. The bright, reticulated foliage remains through the spring, eventually turning a green color. Acer palmatum ‘Pung kil’ is a Japanese maple tree with very thin leaves. These thin leaves emerge in spring with very dark red color. This color mostly remains throughout the summer. Acer palmatum 'Rainbow' is typically a variegated Japanese maple that offers a stunning display of vibrant hues, featuring splashes of pink variegation across full burgundy foliage. This variegation can be inconsistent, but few Japanese maples can match 'Rainbow' when its at its best. These 'Rainbow' are not currently showing variegation. Acer palmatum ‘Red Cloud’ is a nice red small tree linearlobum with dark purple foliage in spring. In cooler climates this tree will hold color most of the summer but in hotter areas it needs some shade  and it begins to bronze out in August. Acer Palmatum 'Red Emperor' is a Must Have Red Japanese Maple Tree for Any Yard Acer palmatum ‘Red Emperor’ is a red Japanese maple tree was originally introduced by Dick Wolff at Red Maple Nursery in Pennsylvania as Emperor 1 in 1976 and much later patented under that name by someone in Oregon. Many growers grow this plant as 'Red Emperor'. It does not matter what you call it, this is a great plant. 'Red Emperor' is one of many in a long line of trees to claim the title "Better Than Bloodgood" and in some ways it is. 'Red Emperor' is rare in that it doesn't usually burn in full sun even in hotter climates. 'Red Emperor' holds its color through the summer better than most other red Japanese maple trees like 'Bloodgood'. This tree does not disappoint. Another advantage is that it usually leafs out in the spring a few days later than other red Japanese maple trees like 'Bloodgood' lessening the chance of frost damage. 'Red Emperor' is hardy in zones 4 through 10 and can handle full sun in pretty much any climate. The growth rate of 'Red Emperor' Japanese maple is very good. 'Red Emperor' develops into a large red Japanese maple tree with a large, full canopy. 'Red Emperor' can grow to be about 15 to 18 feet tall and about 12-14 feet wide at the canopy. 'Red Emperor' has large, broad leaves that are dark red to purple in the spring. This dark red color holds well into the summer before eventually fading to a greenish color in the summer. Acer palmatum 'Red Flash' is an upright Japanese maple with fantastic red color especially in the spring. The red color darkens during the summer months. The fall color of 'Red Flash' is a bright, fiery red. The picture is green due to heavy shade. 10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet   Width: 4-6 feet 

'Red Pygmy' may not be the best named linearilobum but it is one of the best all around Japanese Maples. Although slower growing than some of the vigorous forms of  linearilobum, 'Red Pygmy' can attain heights of more than 15 feet with age. While it comes out red in spring and may hold color into the summer in some areas, 'Red Pygmy' quickly turns green as temperatures begin to rise in hot climates. The green is a dark rich green throughout the summer then as a startling contrast this plant will turn bright yellow or gold in fall. 'Red Pygmy ' leaves have some of the narrowest lobes of the red linearilobums often having an interesting twist in the lobe. 'Red Pygmy' tolerates sun well. The changes in color and the very graceful shape make this a must have plant for collectors and occasional gardeners alike. These trees are not displaying their usual characteristics, but they are still great looking Japanese maples. In my experience reverted trees still display typical fall colors regardless of the shape of the leaves. These trees are also not guaranteed to never regain their distinguishing characteristics, but they aren't currently showing it so it has to be noted. Despite the uncharacteristic leaves these trees have been some of the most beautiful trees in the nursery all spring. Acer palmatum 'Red Saber' is a red Japanese Maple with deeply divided leaves and jagged edges. 'Red Saber' has bright new growth in the spring but matures to a dark red later in the year.
