The Ghost Japanese Maple Bundle is a mystery pack of four different "Ghost" Japanese maple varieties. All of these ghost varieties have what we call reticulated variegation where the veining on the leaves is very pronounced due to darker veins and lighter colored leaves. These are some of the most incredible and sought after Japanese maples in existence and some of my personal favorite trees.

Acer palmatum 'Brocade' Dwarf Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Brocade’ is an exceptional laceleaf Japanese maple, prized for its dramatic weeping habit and ever-changing foliage color. In spring, new growth emerges a brilliant orange-red, gradually deepening to rich dark red before softening into red-green tones for summer. Fresh flushes of orange-red new growth continue to appear through the season, adding layers of color and texture.
In autumn, ‘Brocade’ truly lives up to its name, turning glowing shades of bright orange infused with red—often showing even stronger orange fall color than the popular ‘Orangeola,’ though ‘Brocade’ was introduced earlier.
One of the defining characteristics of ‘Brocade’ is its intensely cascading habit. This is one of the most strongly weeping laceleaf varieties available—so much so that, left unstaked, it will creep and flow across the ground, forming a low, spreading mound. Over ten years it typically reaches 1–1.5 feet tall and about 6 feet wide, creating a beautiful carpet of fine, lacy foliage. For a more architectural look, stake ‘Brocade’ to 3–4 feet and allow the branches to cascade downward in dramatic layers.
This variety combines spectacular color with a uniquely strong weeping form, making it a standout focal point in rock gardens, near water features, or in the foreground of mixed plantings.

Spring is a wonderful time for Acer palmatum ‘Satsuki Beni’ as chartreuse leaves are adorned with red highlights at the tips. ‘Satsuki beni’ is a strong grower, older plants can attain 25 feet or more. Fall color is red and fantastic most years.

Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki' Green Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ was listed in catalogs in Japan since the mid 1800s this upright green Japanese Maple is mostly known for its bright red fall color. That is not the only feature that makes this great tree worth growing, red samaras hang from it's graceful branches during the summer forming a nice contrast with the green heavily textured leaves. The sturdy foliage helps 'Osakazuki tolerate full sun even in hotter climates. The cup like shape formed at the base of the leaf led the Japanese to refer to this tree as "Saki-cup-like leaf" or 'Osakazuki'. Fall color is a stunning bright red, Southern Living magazine even went as far as publishing an article a few years back stating that ‘Osakazuki’ had the best fall color of any maple. Acer palmatum ‘Monticello Gardens’ is a lace leaf Japanese maple with a weeping, sprawling habit. There are some red Japanese maples that hold their red color well in the summer and then there is ‘Monticello Gardens’. This tree stays red all the time. ‘Monticello Gardens’ is red in the spring, it is red in the summer and then it is, of course, red in the fall. Acer palmatum 'Kawahara no midori' is a fast growing, upright Japanese maple with bright green leaves and bright green bark. You may be familiar with coral bark Japanese maples, but did you know there are also Japanese maples with green bark? Many Japanese maples have a greenish bark when they are young, but its a much more natural looking green. 'Kawahara no midori' has bright green bark that actually stands out in a crowd of other plants. The leaves of 'Kawahara no midori' are green in the spring and summer and turn bright yellow in the fall.

Acer palmatum 'Dark Knight' is a reticulated Japanese maple with dark red leaves and lighter red color in the center lobes. 'Dark Knight' has dark red veins creating the reticulated look. Acer palmatum 'Mardi Gras' Variegated Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Mardi Gras' shows more color in early spring than just about any Japanese Maple. Wonderful pink and white colors show up on new growth. Late season growth in summer will give you another blast of color. Older plants do not tend to show nearly as much variegation as younger more vigorous plants. Heavy pruning just prior to leafing out in the spring can sometimes return older plants to the vibrant colors of younger plants.

Acer palmatum 'Sekimori' Dwarf Japanese Maple

'Sekimori' is known as much for the attractive white striations on the bark as it is for its gracefully growth habit which unlike many dissectums, is slightly more prostrate than pendulous. Acer palmatum 'Oshio beni' Red Japanese Maple

A fast growing cultivar that comes out more orange red than purple red in early spring but rapidly darkens as it is exposed to the spring sun, 'Oshio beni' is a strong grower. It will not hold it's color as long into the hot summers of the Southeast as well as some other cultivars, turning green by late June in Atlanta. What 'Oshio beni' lacks in summer color it more than makes up for in the fall when the foliage turns a bright orange red. The name means the great red tide.
