Acer Palmatum Japanese Maples

Acer palmatum ‘Hubble’s Super Cork’ is a relatively new variety that develops rough bark at a very young age compared to similar varieties. These rough bark Japanese maples are always fascinating because it is such a stark contrast from the typical smooth bark of the vast majority of Japanese maples. ‘Hubble’s Super Cork’ leafs out in the spring with bright green leaves which darken as summer approaches. Fall color is a vibrant orange to red. These colors are even more striking when contrasting off of the brown, rough bark. ‘Hubble’s Super Cork’ is another must have variety for all rough bark fans.10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Herbstfeuer’ is a fast, upright growing Japanese maple with large, round leaves. In German, the name means Autumn fire and 'Herbstfeuer' certainly lives up to its name with its fiery red and orange colors in the fall. In spring, the large rounded leaves, held on red petioles, appear very light green with a white pubescence before turning dark green for summer. The growth habit is decidedly upright when young, becoming more rounded with age. This is a very rare reticulated leaf form dissectum. The new leaves in spring are light green sometimes almost white with dark veins. A great plant for many parts of the world. Although very beautiful 'Filigree' is more of a collector plant in hotter climates as summers heat will really do a number on it around August,  causing it to drop a large percentage of it's leaves. This is caused by heat and not lack of water. If you must try your luck with this plant in hotter climates please place in a cool shady spot. Acer palmatum ‘Brocade’ is an exceptional laceleaf Japanese maple, prized for its dramatic weeping habit and ever-changing foliage color. In spring, new growth emerges a brilliant orange-red, gradually deepening to rich dark red before softening into red-green tones for summer. Fresh flushes of orange-red new growth continue to appear through the season, adding layers of color and texture. In autumn, ‘Brocade’ truly lives up to its name, turning glowing shades of bright orange infused with red—often showing even stronger orange fall color than the popular ‘Orangeola,’ though ‘Brocade’ was introduced earlier. One of the defining characteristics of ‘Brocade’ is its intensely cascading habit. This is one of the most strongly weeping laceleaf varieties available—so much so that, left unstaked, it will creep and flow across the ground, forming a low, spreading mound. Over ten years it typically reaches 1–1.5 feet tall and about 6 feet wide, creating a beautiful carpet of fine, lacy foliage. For a more architectural look, stake ‘Brocade’ to 3–4 feet and allow the branches to cascade downward in dramatic layers. This variety combines spectacular color with a uniquely strong weeping form, making it a standout focal point in rock gardens, near water features, or in the foreground of mixed plantings.
