Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' Dwarf Japanese maple has been grown in Japan for around 300 years. Recently it has become accepted as one of the best lace leaf varieties in cultivation, and probably the best red lace leaf for hot climates. 'Tamukeyama' not only tolerates but actually thrives in our hot Georgia summers even in full sun.
'Tamukeyama' Dwarf Japanese Maple is one of the fastest growing weeping Japanese maples we grow, slightly more irregular and upright than other lace leaf varieties.
New growth is dark red in spring and holds very well especially in sunny locations. Fall color is a mix of fiery reds with a hint of orange undertone that predictably puts on one of the falls best shows.

Acer palmatum 'Viridis' Green Lace Leaf Japanese Maple

The name says it all, ‘Viridis’ means green in Latin and 'Viridis' is the standard by which all green dissectums are judged. Acer palmatum 'Viridis' is a green lace leaf Japanese maple with light green foliage in spring, that usually darkens in the summer. 'Viridis' turns to a bright yellow to gold color in the fall. 'Viridis is a green lace leaf japanese maple with cascading branches and foliage that make this a show stopper in any garden. Many of the oldest, most beautiful and stately Japanese maples in America are this cultivar.

'Red Dragon' will stay more red during summer than most varieties. The coarse leaves begin the spring dark purple and become more red as temperatures increase. By mid August in Georgia when summer temperatures reach their peak and most other red varieties have turned green 'Red Dragon' still has some bronze or slight bits of red left on it's leaves. Fall color is a dramatic crimson red. The growth habit of 'Red Dragon' is not as pendulous as other weeping cultivars, at times almost prostrate. While 'Red Dragon' will tolerate full sun in some climates, it would prefer a break from the sun at some point during the day in hotter areas. Although 'Red Dragon is reported to be a moderate grower in some climates, we find it to be very slow in the south.

Acer palmatum 'Orangeola' Red Dwarf Japanese Maple

'Orangeola' is one of the fastest growing dissectums but still does not attain height very quickly. This great plant changes personality all season long. It emerges with tones of green and orange in early spring and as the sun works it's magic on the foliage it quickly turns purple. Next as spring turns into summer the older leaves start to slowly turn green, this process happens over a number of weeks during which the leaves appear molted with infused colors of green and purple washed across each leaf. About the time the entire plant becomes green in mid to late summer 'Orangeola' decides it is time to grow again, putting out red new growth that lays over the older foliage. Then in fall it really puts on a show with traffic stopping bright orange-red leaves. This plant does extremely well in hotter climates.

Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' Red Dwarf Japanese Maple (Pre-Order)

Introduced in 1965 ‘Crimson Queen’ has become the standard by which all red, lace leaf maples are judged and probably the most common dissectum grown in America.
This is one of the very best Japanese maple dissectums. Its color, when in prime leaf, is unsurpassed. Crimson Queen will tolerate full sun, even in hot climates but it is much happier if it can be provided with a few hours shade during the day or indirect light. Under perfect conditions Crimson Queen can hold its red color as well or better than most cultivars.
The growth habit is decidedly pendulous and will form a beautiful low mound only gaining height as it matures and begins to mound over itself. Crimson Queen left on it's own is beautiful and graceful but with a little training can become a specimen anyone could be proud of.

Acer japonicum 'Green Cascade' Full Moon Japanese Maple

‘Green Cascade’ is a cascading or weeping form of Acer japonicum. The leaves on mature plants can be quite large. These leaves are deeply dissected and in spring are a brilliant bright green. The overall shape of Green Cascade is quite different than most weeping Acer palmatums in that it looks more like a sprawling octopus, when young, than a tight bush. It does, however become much more dense with age. Like other japonicums it is in fall that ‘Green Cascade’ really shines. ‘Waterfall’ is almost identical to 'Viridis', but most experts consider 'Waterfall' to be more pendulous and smaller leafed. We see very little difference in shape or leaf size at our nursery, although it may be slightly slower growing. Where we do see a huge difference is in the fall color which in addition to the bright yellow and gold of 'Viridis', 'Waterfall' displays wonderful reds and oranges washed across the leaves.

Acer palmatum 'Germaine's Gyration' Green Lace Leaf Japanese Maple

‘Germaine’s Gyration’ was discovered by Bob Vandermoss and introduced by Andre Iselli for his mother Germaine. This outstanding dissectum variety does well in the south, tolerating even full sun. This is important because most green dissectums will not tolerate full sun as far south as Atlanta. Germaine's Gyration will become much wider than tall with the inner branching swirling around the main trunk in different directions making it obvious where the gyration part of the name came from. The outer form of the tree however is a very pleasant and fairly symmetrical mound. Fall color begins in October as a golden yellow first turning orange then almost red as the temperatures cool in November.

Acer palmatum ‘Golden Falls’ is a yellow version of the popular weeping Japanese maple, ‘Ryu Sei’. ‘Golden Falls’ shares the same downward growth habit as ‘Ryu Sei’ and will only grow as tall as you stake it. ‘Golden falls’ has very attractive yellow leaves in the spring that turn to chartreuse in the summer before turning orange to red in the fall.

‘Heartbeat’ is an Australian cultivar that is just making its way into the gardening culture of the United States. 'Heartbeat' would be a great addition to any garden. The leaves are extremely dissected with lobes that are held very far apart, making the overall leaf almost appear round. The habit is very low and spreading forming a plant that is much wider than tall. Spring color is more red and less purple than other similar Japanese Maples. As summer approaches leaves turn first bronze then green but this vigorous grower seems to put on new red growth at the tips all summer long even in hot climates. Acer palmatum ‘Ryu sei’ is the most pendulous Japanese maple on the market today. The most unusual thing about this is that the leaves are fully palmate, light green and very attractively star shaped. Most cascading varieties have dissected leaves. If not staked, 'Ryu sei' becomes a ground cover. When grown in a container it can resemble ivy cascading down past the bottom of the pot. For the landscape 'Ryu sei' is generally staked up to a certain height then allowed to fall to the ground making a beautiful flowing mound. Fall color is gold and orange.
