The name simply means green cascading which perfectly describes this great little tree. In spring the green color has a slightly blue tint that separates it from other green dissectums. At one time all green dissectums were probably called 'Ao shidare' but over time this cultivar became dominant and rightly so. Growth is very strong and pendulous. Ao shidare will tolerate full sun better than most green dissectum cultivars but could still benefit from some shade in hotter climates. 'Stella Rossa' translates to Red Star. The habit of this cultivar is decidedly weeping, delicate and graceful. While it tolerates full sun, 'Stella Rossa' would like to have a little shade in hotter climates. The foliage of 'Stella Rossa' emerges bright red in early spring holding the bright red color well into summer before turning darker red and eventually burgundy. In very hot climates it turns bronze by September but never totally green like most other red maples in our nursery. While it may be a little slower growing than many of the dissectums it holds its bright red color in the Southeast better than almost every other cultivar. Acer palmatum 'Paisleigh' is a dwarf Japanese maple with large, dissected leaves. These leaves emerge in spring bright green, sometimes with a pinkish hue. 'Paisleigh' was originally found as a seedling from 'Autumn Fire'. We originally named this tree 'Summer Desire' based on the interesting colors the tree can have during the summer. However, it is now known as 'Paisleigh', named after my daughter Madelyn Paisleigh. The name also fits as the leaves are unusually shaped for a lace leaf Japanese Maple. The leaves are large and rounded with broad lobes. The shape of the leaves coupled with the array of colors that can be found at different times throughout the year gives the appearance of paisleys. This is a brand new variety introduced by Maple Ridge Nursery.
