Fall color is crimson.

'Cecilia' was found as a chance seedling from 'Tamukeyama' and shares many of the color characteristics with its parent plant. The leaves of 'Cecilia' are dark red becoming bright red in the fall. Acer palmatum 'Kawahara Rose' is a beautiful corallinum type Japanese maple. 'Kawahara Rose' emerges in spring with a gorgeous rosy pinkish red color. These pinkish leaves then transition to orange and eventually green by summer. In late summer there is often a flush of new growth which is the rosy spring color that stands out beautifully on top of the older green foliage. Fall color for 'Kawahara Rose' is yellow to orange.

Acer palmatum 'Corallinum' represents a fine example of a whole group of similar maples that emerge salmon-pink to pinkish-red in spring. These 5 lobed semi dwarf trees are all known for there spectacular spring displays. More pink than 'Shinde shojo' or Beni maiko', Corallinum really stands out in the garden. Even the new stems and petioles are pink to red. Though a fantastic tree it tends to always be leggy in pots and never really fills in until planted in the ground for a couple of years. Also 'Corallinum is never as pink for us in the Southeast as it is for people in cooler climates. After turning green in early June we are usually treated to a second burst of color in August with the new flush of pinkish-red new leaves. Fall color is usually an orange-red to pink-red.

Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg' Red Japanese Maple

Discovered as a chance seedling by J.R.P. van Hoey Smith this distinctive cultivar bears the name of the arboretum where it was discovered. This fast growing cultivar tends to be mostly vase shaped for many years, although very old specimens begin to get more broad with age. The 3 things for which Trompenburg is most famous all have to do with the foliage. The first is the spring color which is a dark purple sometimes almost appearing brown or chocolate turning more red as summer begins but holding a nice color well into even an Atlanta summer. The second is the very sharp serrations to the lobes of the leaf. The third is the way the lobes curl at the ends, but this does not always appear until the tree somewhat matures. Trompenburg will tolerate full Sun even in the south. Fall color is a brilliant scarlet red. There is some speculation that 'Trompenburg' may have shirasawanum parentage due to the fact that the samaras are held erect. 10 Year Size: Height: 15-18 Feet Width: 10-14 Feet

‘Shojo Shidare’ does very well in hot climates. The spring color is purple and holds well into the summer even in Georgia. Fall color is almost scarlet and very strong. A fast growing, very pendulous dissectum, 'Shojo shidare' will mound into an excellent specimen in just a few years. 'Shojo shidare' is rare in the trade because it can be difficult to propogate, which is all the better for you collectors if you should be lucky enough to find one. Listed in 1710 in Japan this old cultivar is a Japanese Favorite. The brilliant red of early spring quickly becomes a rich purple. Holding its color in to the summer even in hot climates this tree is also said to be very hardy in cooler areas. This is a fast growing upright maple with older specimens reaching 25 feet or more becoming more round topped with age. Fall brings on special appreciation as Musashino takes on a life of it on with brilliant cherry red color.

Acer shirasawanum 'Yasemin' is a full moon Japanese Maple with excellent variations of red color all year long. 'Yasemin' emerges in spring with stunning deep red leaves that eventually darken to a dark purple towards the end of spring. The color fades some in the summer as nearly all red Japanese maples do. In the fall the leaves turn to a bright red. As a full moon Japanese maple the leaves of 'Yasemin' are quite large and broad though they are more deeply divided than most full moon types.
