The very graceful habit of this small tree is decidedly upright when young but becomes much rounder and wide with age. 'Elegans' does best in partial shade especially in hotter climates.

'Emerald Lace' is one of the fastest growing dissectums. Shaping and pruning when young helps this cultivar live up to its potential as a wonderful garden specimen. Spring growth is lime green sometimes with orange margins when placed in more sun. Very heat tolerant, 'Emerald Lace' even tolerates full sun better than most green dissectums but preferring some shade in hot climates. Fall color is red which is quite rare for green dissectums which usually display yellow to orange fall color.

Acer palmatum ‘Otome zakura’ is a member of the Corallinum group of Japanese maples and is one of our favorites. All of these Corallinum type Japanese maples leaf out very early in the spring, and when they do, ‘Otome zakura’ has some of the brightest red foliage you can imagine. This incredible red color typically holds through April. The colors then transition to orange and then eventually green by the end of May. Much like other Corallinum type Japanese maples and maybe more than the others, ‘Otome zakura’ will usually push new growth in the summer which resembles the bright red foliage of spring. This red new growth on top of the olive green foliage is extremely attractive. Acer palmatum ‘Aka shigitatsu sawa’ has amazing early spring variegation. Almost the entire leaf will be cream with undertones of red and dark green veins. The leaves will turn green in the summer but the veins will be darker. 'Aka shigitatsu sawa' will not tolerate afternoon sun in hot climates but should be placed where it can get 3-4 hours of morning sun because light is required to get the red tones to show up. This plant is slow to mature but will turn into a small round topped tree that will be almost as wide as tall.

Acer palmatum 'Kawahara no midori' is a fast growing, upright Japanese maple with bright green leaves and bright green bark. You may be familiar with coral bark Japanese maples, but did you know there are also Japanese maples with green bark? 'Kawahara no midori' has bright green bark that actually stands out in a crowd of other plants. Acer palmatum 'Butterfly' Variegated Japanese Maple (Pre-Order)

Developed by Koichiro Wada Nursery, Japan before 1938 'Butterfly' has striking variegation. Frequent pruning is recommended to thin inner branching as it gets older, in order to prevent it from becoming to congested. Fall color is orange. There does appear to be two different cultivars being sold under the name 'Butterfly', while they are similar there is enough difference to indicate that they are distinctively different cultivars. One has pink and yellow variegation in early spring while the other one is pink and creamy white. Later in the season the variegation in both appear white. Butterfly does better in partial shade and in warmer climates the pink fades as summer temperatures rise.
