Acer palmatum 'Sister Ghost' emerges yellow with dark veins in early spring. Sometimes in early spring leaves have a slight pink cast. By summer foliage is mostly green with a few specks of yellow to let you know this plant was variegated. Fall color is orange with hints of yellow and red. Generally growing wider than tall this small tree does best in partial shade in all but the coolest areas. Introduced by Talon Buchholz as part of the ghost series.

Just like a Phoenix rises from the ashes, Acer palmatum ‘Phoenix’ rises out of dormancy with bright red leaves in the spring. This bright red color is especially contrasted by yellow-orange veining. ‘Phoenix’ is a member of the Corallinum group of Japanese maples that all typically leaf out a spectacular red before turning green for most of the spring and summer. Like the rest of the maples in this group, ‘Phoenix’ will also often have red new growth in the summer to really contrast off of the green leaves. An upright vase shaped form of coral bark maple. The bark is usually more red in winter compared to the salmon color of it's more famous cousin 'Sango kaku'. 'Beni kawa' also tends to be slightly wider and shorter. You will sometimes see 'Beni kawa' spelled as 'Beni gawa', this is due to a translation error when it was first brought to the U.S. and some growers have never corrected the mistake. Fall color ranges from yellow to orange and usually is an attractive combination of both. Acer palmatum ‘Otome zakura’ is a member of the Corallinum group of Japanese maples and is one of our favorites. All of these Corallinum type Japanese maples leaf out very early in the spring, and when they do, ‘Otome zakura’ has some of the brightest red foliage you can imagine. This incredible red color typically holds through April. The colors then transition to orange and then eventually green by the end of May. Much like other Corallinum type Japanese maples and maybe more than the others, ‘Otome zakura’ will usually push new growth in the summer which resembles the bright red foliage of spring. This red new growth on top of the olive green foliage is extremely attractive. ‘Attaryi is very similar to 'Aconitifolium' except that the leaves are a little larger and not as deeply cut. 'Attaryi' is a very fine small to medium sized maple.
