Acer palmatum 'Oshio beni' Red Japanese Maple
from $39.00
A fast growing cultivar that comes out more orange red than purple red in early spring but rapidly darkens as it is exposed to the spring sun, 'Oshio beni' is a strong grower. It will not hold it's color as long into the hot summers of the Southeast as well as some other cultivars, turning green by late June in Atlanta. What 'Oshio beni' lacks in summer color it more than makes up for in the fall when the foliage turns a bright orange red. The name means the great red tide. 10 Year size: Height: 18-20 Feet Width: 14-16 Feet
Acer palmatum 'Omure yama' Green Japanese Maple
from $39.00
When young, Acer palmatum 'Omure yama' may develop a leader and grow up, but as the tree reaches maturity the long slender new growth cascades down, giving the tree the weeping look that it is known for. Some growers stake 'Omure yama' when young to help it attain initial height from which to weep from. Plants that never develop a leader become wide weeping mounds not much different than the growth habit of many dissectums. I have heard other authors claim that this or that variety has the best fall color of any Japanese maple. I would not have the audacity to claim that about any cultivar but year in and year out I would say the reds, oranges and yellows of 'Omure yama' in fall are at least equal to any other variety we grow.10 Year Size: Height: 6-10 Feet Width: 8-10 FeetSpring Color: GreenSummer Color: GreenFall Color: Orange RedSun Tolerance: PartialPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Matsugae' Variegated Japanese Maple
from $39.00
We find 'Matsugae' to be a very dependable variegated cultivar in the southeast. In spring it opens with cream and rose markings along its irregular shaped medium green leaves. In summer the rose color fades away and the cream turns pure white leaving beautifully contrasting variegation all summer long. Red petioles also add to the overall appearance of 'Matsugae'. This is a very old cultivar with a name that means 'the pine branch' which is hard to understand for a variegated cultivar. This plant is similar to 'Kagiri nishiki' but is faster growing and has better variegation. Fall color is usually orange.

Acer palmatum 'Sherwood Flame' Red Upright Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Sherwood Flame’ was selected by Will Curtis of Sherwood, Oregon from a seedling of 'Burgundy Lace', 'Sherwood Flame is an excellent addition to any garden. I have read many descriptions of this plant written by authors who consider this cultivar very similar to its parent. I have to respectfully disagree. At least in our climate this plant is very different. In early spring 'Sherwood Flame' may be quite purple like its parent but the rest of the year it appears much more red than burgundy. The growth habit is also decidedly more upright. Fall color is red and wonderful on these very pretty deeply serrated leaves. 10 Year size: Height: 14-16 Feet Width: 8-12 Feet

Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg' Red Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Discovered as a chance seedling by J.R.P. van Hoey Smith this distinctive cultivar bears the name of the arboretum where it was discovered. This fast growing cultivar tends to be mostly vase shaped for many years, although very old specimens begin to get more broad with age. The 3 things for which Trompenburg is most famous all have to do with the foliage. The first is the spring color which is a dark purple sometimes almost appearing brown or chocolate turning more red as summer begins but holding a nice color well into even an Atlanta summer. The second is the very sharp serrations to the lobes of the leaf. The third is the way the lobes curl at the ends, but this does not always appear until the tree somewhat matures. Trompenburg will tolerate full Sun even in the south. Fall color is a brilliant scarlet red. There is some speculation that 'Trompenburg' may have shirasawanum parentage due to the fact that the samaras are held erect. 10 Year Size: Height: 15-18 Feet Width: 10-14 Feet
Acer palmatum 'Red Pygmy' Thread Leaf Japanese Maple
from $39.00
'Red Pygmy' may not be the best named linearilobum but it is one of the best all around Japanese Maples. Although slower growing than some of the vigorous forms of linearilobum, 'Red Pygmy' can attain heights of more than 15 feet with age. While it comes out red in spring and may hold color into the summer in some areas, 'Red Pygmy' quickly turns green as temperatures begin to rise in hot climates. The green is a dark rich green throughout the summer then as a startling contrast this plant will turn bright yellow or gold in fall. 'Red Pygmy ' leaves have some of the narrowest lobes of the red linearilobums often having an interesting twist in the lobe. 'Red Pygmy' tolerates sun well. The changes in color and the very graceful shape make this a must have plant for collectors and occasional gardeners alike.10 year size: Height: 5-7 Feet Width: 3-5 FeetSpring Color: RedSummer Color: GreenFall Color: YellowSun Tolerance: PartialPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
