Acer palmatum 'Burgundy Lace' Japanese Maple
from $49.00
This Japanese maple with deeply divided leaves, Introduced by Vermeulen & Son Nursery in New Jersey, in 1958 has very dark purple foliage in spring and holds its color well into the summer even in hotter climates. But like most cultivars the heat will eventually turn the leaves first bronze and then to dark green. Some shading is recommended in hot climates. Probably the most outstanding feature of 'Burgundy Lace' is its mature shape, which will be much wider than tall. Also very attractive is the way in which the red petioles contrast with the purple foliage in spring. Fall color is bright red.

from $39.00
Unfortunately, there are two trees grown with the name 'Chitose yama'. One named in England, and selected from the Exbury gardens around 1990 and this one, the original Japanese clone, dating back to at least 1882 in Japan. Like the Exbury version, the name refers to the mountains near the town of Chitose on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The new leaves appear a soft brick red in early spring but become darker red in a sunny location. In summer leaves first go bronze and then olive green. this happens more quickly in hot climates. 'Chitose yama' becomes a large almost prostrate or even gently cascading shrub usually wider than tall. Fall color is a predictable bright red and a great edition to any landscape.10 Year Size: Height 6-8 Feet Width 8-10 Feet
Acer palmatum 'Corallinum'
from $39.00
Acer palmatum 'Corallinum' represents a fine example of a whole group of similar maples that emerge salmon-pink to pinkish-red in spring. These 5 lobed semi dwarf trees are all known for there spectacular spring displays. More pink than 'Shinde shojo' or Beni maiko', Corallinum really stands out in the garden. Even the new stems and petioles are pink to red. Though a fantastic tree it tends to always be leggy in pots and never really fills in until planted in the ground for a couple of years. Also 'Corallinum is never as pink for us in the Southeast as it is for people in cooler climates. After turning green in early June we are usually treated to a second burst of color in August with the new flush of pinkish-red new leaves. Fall color is usually an orange-red to pink-red.

Being relatively fast growing 'Crimson Prince' is a very desirable red cultivar with dark purple almost black stems. The spring color is slightly more red and not as dark as 'Bloodgood' and does hold well into the summer finally turning first bronze then olive green by mid to late August in hot climates. As soon as cool nights start to show up in fall the nice dark red color quickly returns. This plant is very heavily branched and dense making it an excellent choice for a screening plant. Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' Red Dwarf Japanese Maple
from $49.00
Introduced in 1965 ‘Crimson Queen’ has become the standard by which all red, lace leaf maples are judged and probably the most common dissectum grown in America.
This is one of the very best Japanese maple dissectums. Its color, when in prime leaf, is unsurpassed. Crimson Queen will tolerate full sun, even in hot climates but it is much happier if it can be provided with a few hours shade during the day or indirect light. Under perfect conditions Crimson Queen can hold its red color as well or better than most cultivars.
The growth habit is decidedly pendulous and will form a beautiful low mound only gaining height as it matures and begins to mound over itself. Crimson Queen left on it's own is beautiful and graceful but with a little training can become a specimen anyone could be proud of.

Summer Color: Green, Bronze
Fall Color: Red

Acer palmatum 'Dixie Rain' Rare Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Dixie Rain’ is one of our newest introductions at Maple Ridge Nursery. ‘Dixie Rain’ has an interesting leaf shape for a broad leaf variety. The leaves are deeply divided making it almost appear as a cross between a broad leaf and a lace leaf. The growth habit is also unusual for most broad leaf varieties. While most broad leaves grow upright, with some exceptions, ‘Dixie Rain’ appears to spread rather than grow vertical. This variety is still in its infancy stage so we are still monitoring its growth. ‘Dixie Rain’ also has rather unique colors. ‘Dixie Rain’ will first emerge in early spring with orange-red leaves that quickly change to green. This green then remains through the rest of the spring and summer. The new growth that appears is also that orange-red color which gives the tree a striking contrast. Fall color is then yellow to orange, making ‘Dixie Rain’ a beautiful tree in the landscape.10 Year Size: Height: 5-7 feet Width: 5-7 feet
