Acer palmatum ‘Beni gasa’ is an upright growing Japanese maple with large, pointed leaves. These leaves come out in spring a pinkish red color. This light reddish color with turn to a burgundy, then eventually green in the summer. Fall color is then a nice mix of oranges and yellows. ‘Beni gasa’ grows with a full dense habit and can get nearly as wide as it is tall.

'Nishiki yamato' is a very fast growing tree and develops its rough bark quicker than many other rough bark Japanese maples as well.

This mounding form of maple with adds a little something different to the garden. It is fairly rare to see a maple with this growth habit that does not have dissected leaves. Growing slightly upright when young 'Jiro shidare' which means white cascading soon becomes spreading and then quite pendulous with age. The leaf of 'Washi-no-o’ is a little more coarse than some dissectums and the margins of each lobe are cut more regularly and less deep than most dissectums giving it a very unique texture. This mounding shrub type maple tolerates more sun than most green lace leafs. I have even grown this cultivar in full sun in Atlanta, Georgia but some shade would be appreciated. Acer palmatum 'Ryugu' is a very exciting variegated Japanese maple. 'Ryugu' has about as much variegation to the leaves as any other Japanese maple. The speckled white variegation is quite consistent and should persist year over year. The other thing that is so interesting about this Japanese maple is it's dwarf, compact growth habit. 'Ryugu' will stay quite small with a dense and compact habit. The leaves are green with mostly creamy white variegation speckled all over the leaves. When fall comes 'Ryugu' catches on fire with very bright orange-red color.

Acer palmatum ‘Frosted Purple’ is reticulated Japanese maple with outstanding color particularly in the spring. ‘Frosted Purple’ is similar to the Japanese maples in the “Ghost” series in that it has reticulated variegation and the unique, jagged edges to the leaves. ‘Frosted Purple’ comes out a very light purple color in the spring. This color is much brighter than that of ‘Purple Ghost’ or several other reticulated Japanese maples. This color dulls in the summer, but the reticulation typically holds. Acer palmatum ‘First Ghost’ is another of the reticulated leaf form ghost series from Talon Buchholz. 'First Ghost' requires afternoon shade in most climates and mostly shade in hotter areas. 'First Ghost' boasts outstanding spring color that is predominately creamy white or yellow with dark veins and red margins. In early spring leaves emerge red with green center in sunny locations. In more shade the leaves are green with red tint on the lobes. Either way they are totally green in a matter of days. However, the reason to grow this tree is for the wonderful bright red fall color. 'Tsukubane' is fast growing and becomes a large round topped specimen with age. Older trees regularly achieve heights of more than 25 feet. The Japanese name means ridge on Mount Tsukuba.
