'Cecilia' was found as a chance seedling from 'Tamukeyama' and shares many of the color characteristics with its parent plant. The leaves of 'Cecilia' are dark red becoming bright red in the fall. The dark red color and leaf shape of 'Cecilia' give it contrast and differentiation from other red Japanese maple varieties. 'Cecilia' should grow well and hold its color even in hotter sunnier climates. Acer palmatum 'Pendula Julian' is a very pendulous Japanese maple and benefits from being grafted higher or staking when young. Leaves emerge rusty red to more of a pink red depending on sun exposure but always with a green mid-vein. In early spring the abundant blooms put on quite a show for a maple. In cooler climates rusty red color extends well into the summer but in hotter climates 'Pendula Julian’ fades to an attractive olive green by mid June. Acer palmatum 'Utsu Semi' Green Japanese Maple

Amazingly short lobes for an Acer palmatum give 'Utsu semi' and unbeatable texture that contrasts well with almost everything in the garden. Add to that the vivid light green color in spring and you get a must have show stopper of a plant. 'Utsu semi' translates to grasshopper like skin. In summer leaves darken slightly but would still be considered light green. In fall the leaves turn orange to purple while the leaf veins remain green giving it a striking affect. Requires shade in warmer climates. 'Utsu semi' is rather slow growing and a little difficult to propagate so it is rather rare in the nursery trade. This little round topped tree will generally be as wide or wider than tall with age.
