Acer palmatum 'Red Filigree Lace' (Pre-Order)
from $59.00
With one of the most dissected leaves you will ever see on a Japanese maple 'Red Filigree Lace' has been a highly sought after "collectors plant" for many years. Originally propagated from a chance seedling by Will Curtis in Sherwood, Oregon, this plant will become an eye-catching topic of conversation in any garden. Very pendulous the habit is mounding and very low unless staked or grafted on a standard. 'Red Filigree Lace' probably holds it' red color in summer in the Southeastern U.S. better than any red cultivar of Japanese maple. It does however require some shade. Amazingly it will hold its color even in somewhat shady conditions. Given perfect growing conditions it is not only a reliable plant but in some instances becomes quite vigorous. Unfortunately in hot climates it is very slow growing and is susceptible to over watering when young. In very early spring the delicate looking foliage is decidedly red becoming darker purple in summer before turning crimson in fall. Do not let the intricate finely cut lacy leaf fool you, as long as you provide a well-drained environment 'Red Filigree Lace' is a very sturdy and hardy plant that any gardener should feel lucky to have.(Pre-Order trees will start shipping in early May)
Height: 2-3 feet Width: 3-5 feet
Acer palmatum 'Crimson Princess' Red Dwarf Japanese Maple
from $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Crimson Princess’ is a low, spreading Japanese maple. ‘Crimson Princess’ has lacy leaves that emerge red in the spring. These red leaves typically transition to a darker burgundy color in the summer. Fall color is a bright red. 10 Year Size: Height: 3-5 feet Width: 4-6 feet
Acer palmatum 'Waterfall' (Pre-Order)
from $49.00
Acer palmatum 'Waterfall' Dwarf Japanese Maple with Green Lace Leaves and the Weeping "Waterfall" Shape
Acer palmatum ‘Waterfall’ is a stunning weeping dwarf Japanese maple with green lacy leaves. 'Waterfall' is quite similar to Acer palmatum 'Viridis', however the leaf shape can be slightly different as well as different variations of yellow and orange fall color.
Acer palmatum 'Waterfall' emerges in spring with bright lime green color that darkens as the temperatures get warmer in the summer. 'Waterfall' displays an excellent green color through the spring and summer that will really brighten up a landscape. In the fall 'Waterfall' will turn bright yellow and orange and is a true show stopper.
Given the name 'Waterfall' it should come as no surprise that it is a weeping dwarf Japanese maple with cascading, waterfall-like growth. 'Waterfall' is a medium growing dwarf Japanese maple that should reach about 4 to 6 feet tall and about as wide. 'Waterfall' has elegant weeping branches that give the tree nice flow and character.
Acer palmatum 'Waterfall' is a strong growing dwarf Japanese maple that will grow well in zones 5 through 9. In many areas of the country 'Waterfall' will be able to handle full sun. It can even tolerate full sun in hotter climates but would certainly appreciate a break from the hot afternoon sun if possible.
We see very little difference in shape or leaf size at our nursery, although it may be slightly slower growing. Where we do see a huge difference is in the fall color which in addition to the bright yellow and gold of 'Viridis', 'Waterfall' displays wonderful reds and oranges washed across the leaves.(Pre-Order trees will start shipping in early May)

When grown in a container it can resemble ivy cascading down past the bottom of the pot. For the landscape 'Ryu sei' is generally staked up to a certain height then allowed to fall to the ground making a beautiful flowing waterfall like affect.
The most unusual thing about 'Ryusei' is that it has this extreme weeping growth habit but is the leaves are fully palmate instead of the traditionally lacy leaves of most weeping Japanese maples. The leaves of 'Ryusei' are light green and very attractively star shaped. Most cascading varieties have dissected leaves which makes 'Ryusei' one of the most unique varieties of weeping dwarf Japanese maples there is. Acer palmatum 'Red Feathers' (Pre-Order)
from $49.00
This little maple with very fine dissected leaves is an excellent addition to any garden. Among dissectums only 'Red filigree Lace' and 'Beni komo no su' have finer foliage. 'Red Feathers' does seem to grow faster than it's fine leafed cousins. Starting very bright red in spring the foliage darkens with the heat of summer turning green in hot climates before putting on a wonderful crimson show in fall. Discovered in 1980 and introduced in 1995 by John Vermeullen and Sons nursery this plant was actually a seedling off of the original 'Burgundy Lace' (also a John Vermeullen and Sons introduction in 1945). During evaluation this plant was labeled Rilas Red and occasionally this plant will show up with this incorrect name, leading one to believe that some plants escaped the nursery before introduction.(Pre-Order trees will start shipping in early May)

Acer palmatum 'Red Dragon' (Pre-Order)
from $49.00
Acer palmatum 'Red Dragon' is a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple with Brilliant Red Color
Acer palmatum 'Red Dragon' is a dwarf Japanese maple that is extremely popular for its brilliant red color. 'Red Dragon' will stay more red during summer than most varieties. The coarse leaves begin the spring dark red and become more red as temperatures increase. As summer temperatures reach their peak and most other red varieties have turned green 'Red Dragon' still has a good bit of red left on it's leaves. Fall color is a dramatic crimson red.
The growth habit of 'Red Dragon' is not as pendulous as other weeping cultivars, at times it grows almost prostrate. 'Red Dragon' also stays a little smaller than other dwarf Japanese maples. 'Red Dragon' will max out around 6 feet tall but will only get 4 feet tall in many instances. 'Red Dragon' will get about as wide if not wider than it is tall growing to roughly 6 feet wide.
While 'Red Dragon' will tolerate full sun in some climates, it would prefer a break from the sun at some point during the day in hotter areas. Although 'Red Dragon is reported to be a moderate grower in some climates, we find it to be slower than average in the south. 'Red Dragon' will grow well in zones 5 through 9.(Pre-Order trees will start shipping in early May)

Acer palmatum 'Brocade' (Pre-Order)
from $49.00
Acer palmatum ‘Brocade’ is an exceptional laceleaf Japanese maple, prized for its dramatic weeping habit and ever-changing foliage color. In spring, new growth emerges a brilliant orange-red, gradually deepening to rich dark red before softening into red-green tones for summer. Fresh flushes of orange-red new growth continue to appear through the season, adding layers of color and texture.
In autumn, ‘Brocade’ truly lives up to its name, turning glowing shades of bright orange infused with red—often showing even stronger orange fall color than the popular ‘Orangeola,’ though ‘Brocade’ was introduced earlier.
One of the defining characteristics of ‘Brocade’ is its intensely cascading habit. This is one of the most strongly weeping laceleaf varieties available—so much so that, left unstaked, it will creep and flow across the ground, forming a low, spreading mound. Over ten years it typically reaches 1–1.5 feet tall and about 6 feet wide, creating a beautiful carpet of fine, lacy foliage. For a more architectural look, stake ‘Brocade’ to 3–4 feet and allow the branches to cascade downward in dramatic layers.
This variety combines spectacular color with a uniquely strong weeping form, making it a standout focal point in rock gardens, near water features, or in the foreground of mixed plantings.
