‘Germaine’s Gyration’ was discovered by Bob Vandermoss and introduced by Andre Iselli for his mother Germaine. This outstanding dissectum variety does well in the south, tolerating even full sun. This is important because most green dissectums will not tolerate full sun as far south as Atlanta. Germaine's Gyration will become much wider than tall with the inner branching swirling around the main trunk in different directions making it obvious where the gyration part of the name came from. The outer form of the tree however is a very pleasant and fairly symmetrical mound. The Unique Acer palmatum 'Ryusei' is a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple with Small, Broad Leaves with Bright Green Color Acer palmatum ‘Ryusei’ is a weeping dwarf Japanese maple with the most pendulous Japanese maple on the market today. 'Ryusei' basically grows straight down with a dramatic weeping growth habit. With this extreme growth habit 'Ryusei' won't achieve much height at all without staking. The natural growth of 'Ryusei' will create a mounding ground cover on its own. When grown in a container it can resemble ivy cascading down past the bottom of the pot. For the landscape 'Ryu sei' is generally staked up to a certain height then allowed to fall to the ground making a beautiful flowing waterfall like affect. The most unusual thing about 'Ryusei' is that it has this extreme weeping growth habit but is the leaves are fully palmate instead of the traditionally lacy leaves of most weeping Japanese maples. The leaves of 'Ryusei' are light green and very attractively star shaped. Most cascading varieties have dissected leaves which makes 'Ryusei' one of the most unique varieties of weeping dwarf Japanese maples there is. The green leaf color is bright green in the spring and darkens somewhat in the summer. These leaves are stunning in the fall as they turn a bright orange that appears to glow in the landscape. Acer palmatum ‘Dr. Brown’ is a gorgeous tree with a name that doesn’t do it justice. ‘Dr. Brown’ leafs out with peach, pink, maroon, and green tones to the delicate foliage that give this tree outstanding spring color. Acer palmatum ‘Autumn Fire’ grows more prostrate than pendulous forming a beautiful mushroom shaped mound. The new spring foliage emerges light green edged in pink. As summer arrives the pink fades and the green leaves become darker. The leaf of 'Washi-no-o’ is a little more coarse than some dissectums and the margins of each lobe are cut more regularly and less deep than most dissectums giving it a very unique texture. This mounding shrub type maple tolerates more sun than most green lace leafs. I have even grown this cultivar in full sun in Atlanta, Georgia but some shade would be appreciated. This mounding form of maple with adds a little something different to the garden. It is fairly rare to see a maple with this growth habit that does not have dissected leaves. Growing slightly upright when young 'Jiro shidare' which means white cascading soon becomes spreading and then quite pendulous with age. The new leaves in spring are light green almost yellow and darken as they age giving the entire tree a two-toned effect that is quite striking. Although we do not recommend this plant for full sun in the Southeast, if you place it where it can get direct morning or late evening sun the new growth as it first appears will be tinted red. Acer palmatum 'Asayake' is a dwarf lace leaf Japanese maple with yellow foliage in the spring. In addition to this incredible yellow color the leaves also have slight red edges. The leaves change to a light green in the summer. Fall color transitions from orange to bright red. 'Asayake' is a dwarf, pendulous tree that should form a low growing shrub at maturity. ‘Disscetum Nigrum’ is known for the silver hairs covering the emerging foliage in early spring,  this old cultivar is a great addition to any garden. Although originally found in Japan, 'Dissectum Nigrum' was named in the Netherlands in 1938. Spring color is dark red and holds well into the summer in most areas but does bronze before turning an attractive olive green rather quickly in hot climates. Fall color is bright red. Acer palmatum 'Eye of the Tiger' is a dwarf Japanese maple with delicate lacy leaves. These small leaves emerge in spring with a light red to almost peachy color. By summer the leaves turn to a light green. Summer flushes of new growth offer more splashes of the vibrant spring color across the foliage. Fall color is then a bright red. Acer palmatum ‘Bewely’s Red’ is a beautiful red lace leaf Japanese maple. This Dissectum is unique in that it grows more upright than most other lace leaf varieties. ‘Bewely’s Red’ has wonderful red leaves in spring that hold their color well throughout the year. ‘Bewely’s Red’ also performs well in full sun even in hot climates.10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 6-8 feet

This is a very rare reticulated leaf form dissectum. The new leaves in spring are light green sometimes almost white with dark veins. A great plant for many parts of the world. Although very beautiful 'Filigree' is more of a collector plant in hotter climates as summers heat will really do a number on it around August,  causing it to drop a large percentage of it's leaves. This is caused by heat and not lack of water. If you must try your luck with this plant in hotter climates please place in a cool shady spot.
