'Issai nishiki momiji' is a very unique dwarf form of rough bark maple. Issai means one year or a short period. Nishiki refers to the bark So Issai nishiki means that the bark becomes rough within the first year. Momiji means maple and therefore is repetitive when listed as 'Acer palmatum Issai nishiki momiji' and as such maybe this cultivar should only be listed as 'Issai nishiki'. Acer palmatum ‘First Ghost’ is another of the reticulated leaf form ghost series from Talon Buchholz. 'First Ghost' requires afternoon shade in most climates and mostly shade in hotter areas. 'First Ghost' boasts outstanding spring color that is predominately creamy white or yellow with dark veins and red margins. The variegation on 'First Ghost' holds longer into the summer than any reticulated cultivar we grow. Fall color is bright orange to red.

This is a very rare reticulated leaf form dissectum. The new leaves in spring are light green sometimes almost white with dark veins. A great plant for many parts of the world. Although very beautiful 'Filigree' is more of a collector plant in hotter climates as summers heat will really do a number on it around August, causing it to drop a large percentage of it's leaves. This is caused by heat and not lack of water. If you must try your luck with this plant in hotter climates please place in a cool shady spot. This little plant has deeply divided leaves that are clustered tightly along the branches. With short internodal lengths 'Yuri hime can be quite difficult to propagate therefore it is rarely seen in nurseries. Spring color is pale green growing darker in summer even more so in heavy shade. Acer palmatum 'Paisleigh' is a dwarf Japanese maple with large, dissected leaves. These leaves emerge in spring bright green, sometimes with a pinkish hue. These leaves then get an orange hue to them during the summer that is quite attractive. The fall color ranges from yellow to orange to red. 'Paisleigh' was originally found as a seedling from 'Autumn Fire'. We originally named this tree 'Summer Desire' based on the interesting colors the tree can have during the summer. However, it is now known as 'Paisleigh', named after my daughter Madelyn Paisleigh. The name also fits as the leaves are unusually shaped for a lace leaf Japanese Maple. The leaves are large and rounded with broad lobes. The shape of the leaves coupled with the array of colors that can be found at different times throughout the year gives the appearance of paisleys. This is a brand new variety introduced by Maple Ridge Nursery.

Acer palmatum 'O jishi' Lion's Head Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘O jishi’ is one of the famous lions head maples. 'O jishi' is the male lion and 'Meijishi' is the female lion. Shishigashira means lions head, and while this term can be used to describe either cultivar it is generally used to describe 'Meijishi'. The leaves of 'Ojishi' are heavily crinkled but lighter in color and not quite as tightly crinkled as 'Meijishi'. 'O jishi' is also a much slower growing smaller tree. In full sun new growth has a red tinge to the tips of the foliage. Fall color is red and glorious. The leaves appear very crowded on the stem giving the tree a compact and congested look, with the short internodal length making it hard to propagate and contributing to the fact that it is rarely seen in nurseries.
