Acer palmatum 'Noel' is a variegated Japanese maple from the corallinum category of Japanese maples. Like many corallinum type Japanese Maples 'Noel' is bright red in the early spring. 'Noel' might even have the brightest red spring color of any of the corallinum type Japanese maples. What makes 'Noel' even more unique is the splashes of pink variegation that show out across much of the foliage. This bright red with pink variegation gives 'Noel' one of the best spring displays of any Japanese maple. By summer the red leaves fade to an emerald green and maintain the splashes of pink. The leaves then turn bright red again for fall. This is a newer variety for us, but has quickly become one of our very favorite Japanese maples

Acer palmatum ‘English Lace’ is one of the very few lace leaf varieties that have an upright habit. While not as decidedly upright as ‘Seiryu’, ‘English Lace’ will still form a nice tree that is large for a Dissectum. Acer palmatum ‘English Lace’ leafs out in spring with red foliage that becomes burgundy later in spring. Acer palmatum ‘Dr. Brown’ is a gorgeous tree with a name that doesn’t do it justice. ‘Dr. Brown’ leafs out with peach, pink, maroon, and green tones to the delicate foliage that give this tree outstanding spring color. Acer palmatum ‘Deshojo’ is a wonderful little tree known mostly for its excellent spring color. ‘Deshojo’ leafs out in spring with a bright coral red color to the leaves which is quite striking in any landscape. These showy leaves unfortunately don’t last very long however, turning a solid green in late spring that maintains throughout the summer. ‘Deshojo’ shows out again in the fall when the leaves transition back to a bright red. ‘Deshojo’ is a fairly small growing tree in the landscape and is a wonderful cultivar for bonsai.

Acer palmatum ‘Verkade’s Jacus Potus’ is among a rare category of Japanese maple called Sessilifolium. These Japanese maples are known for their thin, feather like leaves. ‘Verkade’s Jacus Potus’ has excellent colors on these unique leaves. The leaves emerge deep red in the spring. The leaves then turn to a yellowish green in the summer. Acer palmatum 'Oki kasane' Corallinum Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Oki kasane’ is a member of the Corallinum group of Japanese maples. All of these Corallinum type Japanese maples leaf out very early in the spring, and when they do, ‘Oki kasane’ has beautiful peachy orange foliage. This incredible color typically holds through April. The colors then transition to orange and then eventually green by the end of May. Much like other Corallinum type Japanese maples and maybe more than the others, ‘Oki kasane’ will usually push new growth in the summer which resembles the bright orange-red foliage of spring. This new growth on top of the olive green foliage is extremely attractive. Fall color is then orange to red.

One of the older dissectums in cultivation in Europe having been grown for well over 100 years. It is still popular today although competition from varieties that hold color longer into summer has caused production to decrease. Emerging green dusted with red in shady areas to a rusty red in more sun, 'Ornatum' forms a large graceful shrub when mature. While very heat tolerant 'Ornatum' does prefer light shade in hot climates. A very vigorous grower this maple has been around in Japan at least since 1882. With a name that means thunder 'Inazuma' really makes a statement in the garden as older trees can reach 25 feet or more in height and usually as wide or wider than tall. Spring color is purple and then it bronzes as summer approaches showing off the attractive green veining.
