Acer shirasawanum 'Royalty' is a red full moon Japanese maple. Unlike most full moon Japanese maples with their large, rounded leaves, 'Royalty' has very long, narrow leaves. These leaves are dark red in the spring and very attractive. Summer typically turns the leaves to a yellowish green. Fall color ranges from yellow to orange to red. 'Royalty' is a very nice upright growing tree that is quickly becoming a favorite here at the nursery. 'Royalty' will grow into a small to medium sized tree, perfect for most landscapes.

Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg' Red Japanese Maple

Discovered as a chance seedling by J.R.P. van Hoey Smith this distinctive cultivar bears the name of the arboretum where it was discovered. This fast growing cultivar tends to be mostly vase shaped for many years, although very old specimens begin to get more broad with age. The 3 things for which Trompenburg is most famous all have to do with the foliage. The first is the spring color which is a dark purple sometimes almost appearing brown or chocolate turning more red as summer begins but holding a nice color well into even an Atlanta summer. The second is the very sharp serrations to the lobes of the leaf. The third is the way the lobes curl at the ends, but this does not always appear until the tree somewhat matures. Trompenburg will tolerate full Sun even in the south. Fall color is a brilliant scarlet red. There is some speculation that 'Trompenburg' may have shirasawanum parentage due to the fact that the samaras are held erect. 10 Year Size: Height: 15-18 Feet Width: 10-14 Feet

Acer palmatum ‘Seiun kaku’ is a Japanese cultivar has bright green leaves and red petioles. Similar to 'Mikawa yatsubusa' in that the leaves are layered one over the other like tiles on a roof but 'Seuin kaku' is much faster growing developing into a small more open and airy tree. 'Seiun kaku' finishes most years with a very nice deep red fall color. The Japanese name means blue-green tower or palace in the clouds.

Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ was listed in catalogs in Japan since the mid 1800s this upright green Japanese Maple is mostly known for its bright red fall color. That is not the only feature that makes this great tree worth growing, red samaras hang from it's graceful branches during the summer forming a nice contrast with the green heavily textured leaves. The sturdy foliage helps 'Osakazuki tolerate full sun even in hotter climates. The cup like shape formed at the base of the leaf led the Japanese to refer to this tree as "Saki-cup-like leaf" or 'Osakazuki'. Fall color is a stunning bright red, Southern Living magazine even went as far as publishing an article a few years back stating that ‘Osakazuki’ had the best fall color of any maple. Acer palmatum 'Ichigyoji' Green Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Ichigyoji’ is a green upright Japanese maple with large, broad leaves. ‘Ichigyoji’ is often considered the sister tree to ‘Osakazuki’ as they have many similarities including their large, broad leaves and bold, green color. ‘Ichigyoji’ also leafs out a pale orange color in the early spring similar to its sister, ‘Osakazuki’. The similarities don’t end with the leaves. The branching structures of these two trees are also similar in that ‘Ichigyoji’ shares ‘Osakazuki’s strong, stiff branches that give the tree an elegant shape that is endearing for a Japanese maple. The biggest difference in the two trees is the fall color. ‘Osakazuki’ is known for its bright reddish orange fall color that makes the tree look like it has been set ablaze. ‘Ichigyoji’ has a similarly stunning fall display, but it has a combination of yellows and oranges that create a vibrant, neon orange appearance. ‘Ichigyoji’ is a medium growing Japanese maple that should reach about 15 feet tall in 10 years.10 Year Size: Height: 14-16 feet Width: 6-8 feet
