'Ruby de Sofia' is a beautiful reticulated variety that has fantastic colorations of pink and white in the spring. Those colors then turn to green for the summer, still maintaining the reticulated style. 'Ruby de sofia' earned it's name by putting on a brilliant showing of ruby red leaves in fall. This tree was introduced by Angel Mendoza and named after his daughter Sofia. We are also quite partial to this tree; in addition to it's amazing colors and growing habits, we also have a daughter Sophia who's birthstone is Ruby!

Acer palmatum 'Kawahara Rose' is a beautiful corallinum type Japanese maple. 'Kawahara Rose' emerges in spring with a gorgeous rosy pinkish red color. These pinkish leaves then transition to orange and eventually green by summer. In late summer there is often a flush of new growth which is the rosy spring color that stands out beautifully on top of the older green foliage. Fall color for 'Kawahara Rose' is yellow to orange.

Acer palmatum 'Corallinum' represents a fine example of a whole group of similar maples that emerge salmon-pink to pinkish-red in spring. These 5 lobed semi dwarf trees are all known for there spectacular spring displays. More pink than 'Shinde shojo' or Beni maiko', Corallinum really stands out in the garden. Even the new stems and petioles are pink to red. Though a fantastic tree it tends to always be leggy in pots and never really fills in until planted in the ground for a couple of years. Also 'Corallinum is never as pink for us in the Southeast as it is for people in cooler climates. After turning green in early June we are usually treated to a second burst of color in August with the new flush of pinkish-red new leaves. Fall color is usually an orange-red to pink-red.

'Murasaki kiyohime' is a small maple that will grow much wider than tall, Like it's close relative 'Kiyo hime' this cultivar emerges in spring with red tips to the leaves before turning green for the summer. there are very slight differences between the 2 maples. We find that the edge of 'Murasaki kiyohime' to be more maroon red and 'Kiyo hime' to be more orange red but the tint of these colors can be affected by the sun making them hard to distinguish. Fall color ranges from bronze to orange. 'Murasaki kiyohime' is also slightly more upright when young, often sending up vertical shoots of a foot or more on very young plants only to spend the rest of it's life thickening up and growing wider.
