Acer palmatum 'Red Pygmy' Thread Leaf Japanese Maple
from $39.00
'Red Pygmy' may not be the best named linearilobum but it is one of the best all around Japanese Maples. Although slower growing than some of the vigorous forms of linearilobum, 'Red Pygmy' can attain heights of more than 15 feet with age. While it comes out red in spring and may hold color into the summer in some areas, 'Red Pygmy' quickly turns green as temperatures begin to rise in hot climates. The green is a dark rich green throughout the summer then as a startling contrast this plant will turn bright yellow or gold in fall. 'Red Pygmy ' leaves have some of the narrowest lobes of the red linearilobums often having an interesting twist in the lobe. 'Red Pygmy' tolerates sun well. The changes in color and the very graceful shape make this a must have plant for collectors and occasional gardeners alike.10 year size: Height: 5-7 Feet Width: 3-5 FeetSpring Color: RedSummer Color: GreenFall Color: YellowSun Tolerance: PartialPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil

Acer palmatum 'Red Spider' is a linearlobum Japanese maple with long thin lobes to the skinny leaves. These thin leaves have very good red color in the spring. It is a much lighter red than the majority of red Japanese maples. These leaves then fade to a burgundy or green color in the summer. Fall color is a bright crimson red. 'Red Spider' like many linearlobum Japanese maples has a bad habit of reverting meaning that the thin leaves will revert back to a more traditional broad leaf. Branches with reverted broad leaves should be pruned out to prevent this issue from taking over the majority of the tree. Acer palmatum 'Scolopendrifolium Rubrum' Red Japanese Maple
from $49.00
Acer palmatum 'Scolopenrifolium rubrum' is a great red linearlobum type Japanese maple that is often confused with some of the other linearlobum varieties and maybe even used as a catch all name for red linearlobum plants. Our cultivar however is very distinct. The long narrow lobs are somewhat wider than plants like Red Pygmy but more narrow than 'Beni otake'. It is definitely different than 'Atrolineare' but may be synonymous with Keiser. While the overall growth tends to be slow and bushy sometimes new limbs can grow three or 4 feet in just a few weeks. These limbs are generally unattractive and should be pruned. The spring color is a very attractive dark red holding into well summer before turning bronze. Fall color is wonderful and often described as raspberry red.

Acer palmatum 'Shaina' Dwarf Japanese Maple
from $49.00
‘Shaina’ was discovered as a witches broom on a 100-year-old atropurpureum by Dick Wolf of Red Maple Nurseries in the early 1980's, this compact dwarf maple has become a favorite of maple enthusiasts and gardeners all over the world. Very upright when young 'Shaina' begins to widen with age. I have grown this wonderful little cultivar in full sun even in Decatur, GA although like most Japanese maples it would appreciate some break from the sun during the day in hotter climates. Leaves appear nice red in the spring, a true red and not the purple of some cultivars. Though reported to hold its color all summer long in some parts of the world, by mid summer in our climate leaves turn bronze or green but then new red growth appears at the branch tips. Fall color is a very attractive bright red.
