‘Emmett’s Pumpkin’ has some of the largest leaves of any Japanese Maple. New leaves in spring emerge yellow green with a bronze overlay. The combination of leaf shape and Fall color make 'Emmett's Pumpkin' one of the most aptly named Japanese Maple varieties there is.

This may very well be the most heat tolerant of the shirasawanum varieties. The large luxurious green leaves are more deeply cut than many shirasawanum varieties and are quite sun tolerant in all but the hottest climates. 'Palmatifolium' is quite vigorous and forms a strong, sturdy upright tree becoming more rounded and wider with age. Most of all, the fall color is a dazzling array of orange, red and yellow tones.

Acer palmatum ‘Ryu sei’ is the most pendulous Japanese maple on the market today. The most unusual thing about this is that the leaves are fully palmate, light green and very attractively star shaped. Most cascading varieties have dissected leaves. If not staked, 'Ryu sei' becomes a ground cover. When grown in a container it can resemble ivy cascading down past the bottom of the pot. Acer palmatum ‘Miss Piggy’ is one of the most unusual Japanese maples that we grow at Maple Ridge Nursery. ‘Miss Piggy’ is a dwarf tree with sturdy branching and bunched up leaves that are caused by fasciations at the tips of the branches. These fasciations usually seen in conifers and are extremely rare in Japanese maples. The leaves can sometimes grow so close together that they completely encircle the branches. ‘Attaryi is very similar to 'Aconitifolium' except that the leaves are a little larger and not as deeply cut. 'Attaryi' is a very fine small to medium sized maple.
