Japanese Maples and Conifers

Thuja occidentalis 'Sudworth' is a fast growing, upright arborvitae with golden yellow color. 'Sudworth' has bright yellow foliage throughout the year. This fast growing arborvitae then turns to an attractive bronze color in the winter. 'Sudworth' grows upright and conical. 10 Year Size: Height: 12-14 feet   Width: 6-8 feet

Picea orientalis 'Bergman's Gem' is a dwarf variety of oriental spruce. This slow growing spruce only grows a few inches per year. This slow growth results in a small and dense little tree. This small stature makes it a great tree for rock gardens and small locations in the landscape. 'Bergman's Gem' has small needles with a nice green color that make this a gem in the garden. 10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 feet   Width: 2-4 feet

Pinus sylvestris 'Mecek' is a dwarf Scots Pine with a short, globose growth habit. 'Mecek' is a slow growing Scots Pine that matures to only a few feet in size. The dense structure of this little Scots Pine make it a perfect tree for any spot in the garden. 10 Year Size: Height: 2-3 feet   Width: 2-3 feet 

Picea abies 'Lilliput' is a very small dwarf Norway Spruce. 'Lilliput' with grow into a short, dense ball. 'Lilliput' has bright lime-green foliage that makes this little Norway Spruce very attractive in the landscape. 'Lilliput' is one of the smallest and most dense spruces that we grow.  10 Year Size: Height: 1-2 feet   Width: 1-2 feet

Pinus mugo 'Pumilio' is a dwarf mugo pine with a low, spreading growth habit. 'Pumilio' has a very dense structure that stays compact and low to the ground. The needles of this dwarf mugo pine are short with a vibrant, emerald green color. This is a great evergreen tree for small spaces in the garden, as an accent plant, or as a nice piece to a rock garden. 10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 feet   Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum 'Yeager Dwarf' probably also known as just 'Yeager' is a dwarf Japanese maple with a very low growing and dense habit. This Japanese maple shares many of the common characteristics of the "hime" type Japanese maples with the small green leaves, dense foliage, and flat topped growth habit. 'Yeager Dwarf' is a great dwarf Japanese maple for bonsai or small gardens. 10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 feet   Width: 4-6 feet

Acer shirasawanum ‘Seasons of Change’ is a Full Moon Japanese maple with beautiful green leaves in spring that also maintain a reddish hue. These leaves are deeply divided and mature into solid green leaves through most of the summer, but some of the leaves will have this reddish hue on the new growth. Fall color then ranges from yellow to orange to red and really puts on a show. 10 Year Size: Height: 10-12 feet Width: 6-8 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Garnet Tower’ is a large growing, lace leaf Japanese maple with some vertical growth to go along with the more traditional spreading habit. ‘Garnet Tower’ has nice red leaves in the spring that fade in the summer. Fall shows off a bright display of reds again across the foliage. 10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 6-8 feet

Acer buergerianum ‘Bling-Bling’ is a gorgeous trident maple with bright, pale yellow color in the spring. These leaves turn a light yellow-green in the summer. In the fall ‘Bling-Bling’ will range from orange to red. Acer buergerianum ‘Bling-Bling’ is a medium growing trident maple that won’t get much taller than 10 feet tall.10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Dixie Rain’ is one of our newest introductions at Maple Ridge Nursery. ‘Dixie Rain’ has an interesting leaf shape for a broad leaf variety. The leaves are deeply divided making it almost appear as a cross between a broad leaf and a lace leaf. The growth habit is also unusual for most broad leaf varieties. While most broad leaves grow upright, with some exceptions, ‘Dixie Rain’ appears to spread rather than grow vertical. This variety is still in its infancy stage so we are still monitoring its growth. ‘Dixie Rain’ also has rather unique colors. ‘Dixie Rain’ will first emerge in early spring with orange-red leaves that quickly change to green. This green then remains through the rest of the spring and summer. The new growth that appears is also that orange-red color which gives the tree a striking contrast. Fall color is then yellow to orange, making ‘Dixie Rain’ a beautiful tree in the landscape.10 Year Size: Height: 5-7 feet Width: 5-7 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Akita yatsabusa’ is a dwarf Japanese maple with very small leaves. These small leaves are green in the spring and summer before turning a striking red in the fall. ‘Akita yatsabusa’ has short branches which give the tree a very elegant structure. Due to the short stature, small leaves, and short branching, ‘Akita yatsabusa’ is an excellent Japanese maple for bonsai or really just any small area of your yard.10 Year Size: Height: 3-4 feet Width: 2-4 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Livy’ is an upright growing Japanese maple that will never get very tall. ‘Livy’ emerges in the spring with bright red leaves that mature to a deeper red in the summer. Fall color is a spectacular bright red. ‘Livy’ will grow into a compact, shrubby tree at maturity. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer shirasawanum ‘Purple Thunder’ is a full moon Japanese maple with dark purple leaves especially in the spring. These leaves fade to a burgundy in the summer. In the fall the leaves change to a bright red. ‘Purple Thunder’ has large leaves with long lobes that fold under themselves. The look is reminiscent of Acer palmatum ‘Trompenburg’ and not as extreme as Acer palmatum ‘Peve Starfish’. Acer shirasawanum ‘Purple Thunder’ will grow into a medium size Japanese maple at maturity.10 Year Size: Height: 12-14 feet Width: 6-8 feet
