Acer palmatum 'Shin hikasa' is a dwarf Japanese maple with fantastic 'Higasayama' like reticulated variegation. 'Shin hikasa' has a 'Mikawa yatsabusa' growth habit and 'Higasayama' type leaf colorations. This makes for a truly astonishing Japanese maple. The leaves have pink green and white variegation that makes for a stunning spring display. 'Shin hikasa' later turns to a bright orange in the fall.

The name simply means green cascading which perfectly describes this great little tree. In spring the green color has a slightly blue tint that separates it from other green dissectums. At one time all green dissectums were probably called 'Ao shidare' but over time this cultivar became dominant and rightly so. Growth is very strong and pendulous. Ao shidare will tolerate full sun better than most green dissectum cultivars but could still benefit from some shade in hotter climates.
