Acer Palmatum Japanese Maples

Acer palmatum 'Firefall' is a red dwarf Japanese maple with lacy leaves. These finely dissected leaves are quite red in the spring and even hold most of the red color into the summer. After darkening some in the hotter summer months. 'Firefall' transitions to a bright red during the fall. 'Firefall' is a weeping variety of Japanese maple that will not get very big. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet   Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Winter Red’ is a wonderful coral bark Japanese maple with bright red bark especially in the winter. The leaves emerge light green in the spring and contrast very well off the bright red bark. The leaves darken and the bark lightens as summer arrives. In fall, the leaves of ‘Winter Red’ become a bright, golden yellow that really stand out in the landscape. ‘Winter Red’ does not grow nearly as large as similar coral barks like ‘Sango Kaku’ or ‘Beni kawa’, making it an excellent coral bark for nearly any location. 10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Peve Multicolor’ is a tremendous variegated variety of Japanese maple with white dusting across the foliage. Unfortunately, this variegation is inconsistent and does not appear every year. Without the variegation, ‘Peve Multicolor’ has light green leaves and an attractive form. This seems to be the more common look for us. Our Peve Multicolor are not currently showing variegation. Fall color is going to be a brilliant yellow to orange regardless of the variegation. 10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Little Sango’ is a dwarf, coral bark Japanese Maple. ‘Little Sango’ has many of the same characteristics of the popular Sango kaku but on a much smaller tree. ‘Little Sango’ will only grow to be about 4 feet tall with a dense, bushy habit. ‘Little Sango’ has light green leaves in the spring and summer that turn to a golden yellow in the fall.

With unusually large leaves for a tree considered dwarf, 'Green Elf' works well as a container tree or a smaller specimen in the garden. The large leaves almost look like a shirasawanum leaf.  New growth emerges light green in spring covered with a white pubescence. Summer leaves are darker green before turning mostly yellow in fall.10 year size: Height: 4-6 feet   Width: 3-5 feet    

 Acer palmatum ‘Emerald Sunset’ is another of the red finger nail maples. With purple tips to the leaves in spring, ‘Emerald Sunset’ is one of the most eye catching trees in the spring. ‘Emerald Sunset’ does a good job of keeping these purple tips well into the summer as well, especially in cooler climates. ‘Emerald Sunset’ is a relatively small growing tree that should only reach about 8 feet tall at maturity.10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Lozita’ has beautiful dark burgundy leaves with green veins and a luxurious rounded shape. This shrubby maple matures wider than tall. Bright red petioles and samaras complete the package to make an exceptionally attractive maple. Fall color is scarlet. ‘Lozita’ is the perfect option for a red upright that does not get very tall. 10 Year Size:  Height 7-9 Feet Width 7-9 Feet

Acer palmatum 'Ruby Lace' is a gorgeous lace leaf Japanese maple with a bright, ruby red color to the foliage in the spring. This color does fade a bit in the summer. The leaves turn to a bright yellow to orange in the fall, which is a very unusual fall color for a Japanese maple with red spring foliage. 'Ruby Lace' is a fast growing lace leaf Japanese maple with a low, spreading habit.  10 Year Size: Height: 3-5 feet   Width: 5-7 feet

Yama hime means dwarf mountain which adequately describes this small mounding shrub. The long slender lobes appear in spring edged in red. As summer approaches the leaves turn to a dark green. This cultivar, like 'Shishio hime', seems to be a lower growing more spreading version than some of the other maples of this type. Fall color is yellow to orange. 10 Year Size: Height: 1-2 feet Width: 3-4 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Taro yama’ is a very small dwarf variety of Japanese maple. ‘Taro yama’ emerges in the spring with small light green leaves that darken into the summer. Fall is when ‘Taro yama’ shines with bright red leaves. ‘Taro yama’ is an extreme dwarf Japanese maple that will only achieve 3 or 4 feet tall at maturity.10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 feet Width: 2-4 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Mon Papa’ is an upright growing Japanese maple with a full, bushy structure. The leaves of ‘Mon papa’ emerge dark red in the spring. The leaves will turn to a burgundy, then bronze color before turning completely green in the summer. Fall color for Mon papa is bright red. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Green Globe’ is a green, lace leaf Japanese maple that does not have as much of a weeping habit as most lace leaf Japanese maples. ‘Green Globe’ has green leaves in the spring and summer. Fall color is yellow to orange. ‘Green Globe’ has an upright and spreading habit that forms a short, round topped tree. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 6-8 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Crimson Princess’ is a low, spreading Japanese maple. ‘Crimson Princess’ has lacy leaves that emerge red in the spring. These red leaves typically transition to a darker burgundy color in the summer. Fall color is a bright red. 10 Year Size: Height: 3-5 feet Width: 4-6 feet
