Acer palmatum 'Koyuki' is a very interesting Japanese maple with an unusual leaf shape. This cultivar should not be confused with the reticulated variety by the same name. 'Koyuki' has green leaves with rounded lobes. These leaves turn a reddish orange color in the fall.
There is a similar variety called 'Koyamandi nishiki' that is known as the snowflake maple. 'Koyuki' translates to little snowflake which makes sense as these are two of the only varieties with this sort of rounded leaf shape.

In spring, Acer palmatum 'Higasa yama' may be one of the most exciting and colorful trees you will ever see, there is nothing else quite like it. Unfortunately this intense color is short lived. As soon as temperatures start to get hot most of the variegation will fade away leaving a faint white or cream line down the center of the lobe. And when it gets really hot in our southeastern summers it will go totally green. The name simply means green cascading which perfectly describes this great little tree. In spring the green color has a slightly blue tint that separates it from other green dissectums. At one time all green dissectums were probably called 'Ao shidare' but over time this cultivar became dominant and rightly so. Growth is very strong and pendulous. Ao shidare will tolerate full sun better than most green dissectum cultivars but could still benefit from some shade in hotter climates.
