Acer palmatum 'Inaba Shidare' is a Great Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple for Sunny Gardens
Acer palmatum ‘Inaba shidare’ is a dwarf Japanese maple with a weeping growth habit. 'Inaba Shidare' is one of the best lace leaf Japanese maple cultivars for hotter climates. 'Inaba shidare' can grow in full sun in even some of the hottest climates in the United States. The name 'Inaba Shidare' means "like the cascading leaves of the rice plant" and has been grown since at least the mid 1800s in Japan.
Acer palmatum 'Inaba shidare' is a larger grower for a dwarf Japanese maple but still only gets to be about 6 feet tall at maturity. 'Inaba shidare' grows with a weeping and spreading habit eventually maturing to about 6 to 8 feet wide.
Acer palmatum 'Inaba Shidare' has lacey leaves that are very dark red or burgundy in early spring and I have heard them described as almost black. As summer approaches they become more red, then turn bronze before being one of the last Japanese maples in our gardens to finally give in to the Georgia heat and turn green. Fall color is usually bright fiery red with a bit of an orange hue. Acer palmatum 'Inaba shidare' is a weeping dwarf Japanese maple that is a great tree to add some color to a sunny garden.
Acer palmatum 'Inaba Shidare' is a strong growing and versatile dwarf Japanese maple that will grow well in nearly any climate in the United States. 'Inaba Shidare' can be grown in growing zones 4-10 making it the perfect red dwarf Japanese maple for nearly any yard in America.
