Acer palmatum ‘Dixie Spirit’ is one of several different dissectum varieties that grows more upright rather than weeping. My father once told me that if anyone could ever discover a red version of ‘Seiryu’, then they would be a millionaire. While, I’ve learned that this was probably hyperbole, I have long been searching for a tree that fit this description. There are several trees currently on the market that come close such as ‘Lionheart’ and ‘English Lace’ but neither of these varieties have quite the same upward growth as ‘Seiryu’.‘Dixie Spirit’ is our introduction that fits into this category. ‘Dixie Spirit’ grows decidedly upright at least while young. We are still monitoring the tree to see if the upright habit continues in perpetuity. ‘Dixie Spirit’ shows off a gorgeous crimson red color in the spring while fading to a bronze or olive green in the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Dragon Tears’ is a semi-pendulous tree that grows more out rather than up or down. ‘Dragon Tears’ will get some height, but its growth habit will result in a tree that is at least as wide as it is tall. ‘Dragon Tears’ has small, deeply divided, broad leaves. These leaves have a nice, deep burgundy color in the spring. The leaves will fade somewhat in the summer, but should always maintain at least a hint of burgundy. The the fall, ‘Dragon Tears’ displays a nice orange-red fall color that will put on a show.

Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace' is one of the fastest growing dwarf Japanese maples there is. Shaping and pruning when young helps this cultivar live up to its potential as a wonderful garden specimen. 'Emerald Lace' is a very fast grower and has the natural inclination to grow outward and downward. This is the typical growth habit of a weeping dwarf Japanese maple but with the extreme speed at which 'Emerald Lace' grows these growth habits can be exaggerated.
'Emerald Lace' should grow to be about 4 to 6 feet tall at maturity with a good spread of 6 to 8 feet wide. Acer palmatum 'Emerald Lace' is a hardy Japanese maple that will grow quickly and perform well in zones 5 through 9. Acer palmatum ‘English Lace’ is one of the very few lace leaf varieties that have an upright habit. While not as decidedly upright as ‘Seiryu’, ‘English Lace’ will still form a nice tree that is large for a Dissectum. Acer palmatum ‘English Lace’ leafs out in spring with red foliage that becomes burgundy later in spring. Acer palmatum ‘Geisha Gone Wild’ is variegated with pink, purple, cream and green making a spectacular display in the garden. Fall color is orange and purple.
