‘Attaryi is very similar to 'Aconitifolium' except that the leaves are a little larger and not as deeply cut. 'Attaryi' is a very fine small to medium sized maple. While growing slowly and needing some protection from sun and drying winds especially in hotter climates, 'Attaryi' matures into a beautiful, round topped tree eventually becoming about as wide as it is tall. Also a nice touch are the very pretty small blooms displayed in early spring. Fall color is a striking brilliant red, with yellow and orange.

Born in Louisiana, Acer palmatum ‘Akin’s E.P.’ is an excellent grower even in our extreme summer heat. ‘Akin’s E.P.’ has small, palmate leaves that emerge a deep red or maroon in the spring. The color of these leaves fades somewhat in the summer as all maples do in the heat, however ‘Akin’s E.P.’ will hold most of its spring color given a little afternoon shade. Acer palmatum ‘Anne Irene’ is a very unique variety of Japanese maple. ‘Anne Irene’ emerges in the spring with bright yellow leaves with a reddish border. These leaves are shaped different than just about any other Japanese maple. The lobes are deeply divided and each lobe is somewhat dissected but not enough to be classified as a dissectum. ‘Anne Irene’ also has a very upright habit unlike most dissectums. The red border of these strangely shaped leaves fades away by summer, but the yellow color persists all the way until fall. In the fall the leaves darken to a vibrant red.

An upright vase shaped form of coral bark maple. The bark is usually more red in winter compared to the salmon color of it's more famous cousin 'Sango kaku'. 'Beni kawa' also tends to be slightly wider and shorter. You will sometimes see 'Beni kawa' spelled as 'Beni gawa', this is due to a translation error when it was first brought to the U.S. and some growers have never corrected the mistake. Fall color ranges from yellow to orange and usually is an attractive combination of both. Acer palmatum 'Beni maiko' Corallinum Japanese Maple

‘Beni maiko’ means red dancing girl. Emerging foliage in spring is brilliant fire engine red turning pinkish before turning totally green by late May in Georgia. In spring it is hard to distinguish this cultivar from others like 'Shin de shojo' or 'Shishio Improved'. It probably does not hold its color as long as either of these cultivars but in summer after turning completely green it does something unique. The second season growth on mature plants will come out puckered. dark scarlet red with green veins and the lobes of the small odd leaves will sometimes be very strangely shaped. 'Beni maiko' has a very graceful habit, starting off as openly vase shaped when young becomig more round topped with age. Fall color is usually orange.
