Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' Dwarf Japanese maple has been grown in Japan for around 300 years. Recently it has become accepted as one of the best lace leaf varieties in cultivation, and probably the best red lace leaf for hot climates. 'Tamukeyama' not only tolerates but actually thrives in our hot Georgia summers even in full sun. 'Tamukeyama' Dwarf Japanese Maple is one of the fastest growing weeping Japanese maples we grow, slightly more irregular and upright than other lace leaf varieties. New growth is dark red in spring and holds very well especially in sunny locations. Fall color is a mix of fiery reds with a hint of orange undertone that predictably puts on one of the falls best shows. 10 Year Size: Height 6-8 Feet Width 8-10 Feet Spring Color: Red Summer Color: Red Fall Color: Red Sun Tolerance: Full Planting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil Our 1 Gallon and 3 Gallon sizes are available for shipping and in store pickup. Acer japonicum 'Green Cascade' Full Moon Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
‘Green Cascade’ is a cascading or weeping form of Acer japonicum. The leaves on mature plants can be quite large. These leaves are deeply dissected and in spring are a brilliant bright green. The overall shape of Green Cascade is quite different than most weeping Acer palmatums in that it looks more like a sprawling octopus, when young, than a tight bush. It does, however become much more dense with age. Like other japonicums it is in fall that ‘Green Cascade’ really shines. Fall color is awesomely brilliant with red, yellow and orange all on the same leaves.10 Year Size: Height: 4-5 Feet Width: 5-8 FeetSpring Color: Bright GreenSummer Color: GreenFall Color: Yellow, Red, and OrangeSun Tolerance: Partial ShadePlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen' Red Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
Introduced in 1965 ‘Crimson Queen’ has become the standard by which all red, lace leaf maples are judged and probably the most common dissectum grown in America. This is one of the very best Japanese maple dissectums. Its color, when in prime leaf, is unsurpassed. Crimson Queen will tolerate full sun, even in hot climates but it is much happier if it can be provided with a few hours shade during the day or indirect light. Under perfect conditions Crimson Queen can hold its red color as well or better than most cultivars. The growth habit is decidedly pendulous and will form a beautiful low mound only gaining height as it matures and begins to mound over itself. Crimson Queen left on it's own is beautiful and graceful but with a little training can become a specimen anyone could be proud of.10 year size: Height: 4-6 Feet Width 6-8 FeetSpring Color: BurgundySummer Color: Green, BronzeFall Color: RedSun Tolerance: FullPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Viridis' Green Lace Leaf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
The name says it all, ‘Viridis’ means green in Latin and 'Viridis' is the standard by which all green dissectums are judged. Acer palmatum 'Viridis' is a green lace leaf Japanese maple with light green foliage in spring, that usually darkens in the summer. 'Viridis' turns to a bright yellow to gold color in the fall. 'Viridis is a green lace leaf japanese maple with cascading branches and foliage that make this a show stopper in any garden. Many of the oldest, most beautiful and stately Japanese maples in America are this cultivar. 10 year size: Height: 4-6 Feet Width: 6-8 Feet Spring Color: Light Green Summer Color: Green Fall Color: Yellow Sun Tolerance: Partial Planting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Red Dragon' Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
'Red Dragon' will stay more red during summer than most varieties. The coarse leaves begin the spring dark purple and become more red as temperatures increase. By mid August in Georgia when summer temperatures reach their peak and most other red varieties have turned green 'Red Dragon' still has some bronze or slight bits of red left on it's leaves. Fall color is a dramatic crimson red. The growth habit of 'Red Dragon' is not as pendulous as other weeping cultivars, at times almost prostrate. While 'Red Dragon' will tolerate full sun in some climates, it would prefer a break from the sun at some point during the day in hotter areas. Although 'Red Dragon is reported to be a moderate grower in some climates, we find it to be very slow in the south. 10 Year Size Height: 3-5 Feet Width: 5-6 FeetSpring Color: RedSummer Color: RedFall Color: CrimsonSun Tolerance: PartialPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Germaine's Gyration' Green Lace Leaf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
‘Germaine’s Gyration’ was discovered by Bob Vandermoss and introduced by Andre Iselli for his mother Germaine. This outstanding dissectum variety does well in the south, tolerating even full sun. This is important because most green dissectums will not tolerate full sun as far south as Atlanta. Germaine's Gyration will become much wider than tall with the inner branching swirling around the main trunk in different directions making it obvious where the gyration part of the name came from. The outer form of the tree however is a very pleasant and fairly symmetrical mound. Fall color begins in October as a golden yellow first turning orange then almost red as the temperatures cool in November. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 Feet Width: 6-9 FeetSpring Color: GreenSummer Color: GreenFall Color: Yellow, OrangeSun Tolerance: Full SunPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Orangeola' Red Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
'Orangeola' is one of the fastest growing dissectums but still does not attain height very quickly. This great plant changes personality all season long. It emerges with tones of green and orange in early spring and as the sun works it's magic on the foliage it quickly turns purple. Next as spring turns into summer the older leaves start to slowly turn green, this process happens over a number of weeks during which the leaves appear molted with infused colors of green and purple washed across each leaf. About the time the entire plant becomes green in mid to late summer 'Orangeola' decides it is time to grow again, putting out red new growth that lays over the older foliage. Then in fall it really puts on a show with traffic stopping bright orange-red leaves. This plant does extremely well in hotter climates.10 Year Size Height: 3-5 Feet Width: 6-8 FeetSpring Color: RedSummer Color: GreenFall Color: Orange,RedSun Tolerance: FullPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
Acer palmatum 'Waterfall'from $39.00
‘Waterfall’ is almost identical to 'Viridis', but most experts consider 'Waterfall' to be more pendulous and smaller leafed. We see very little difference in shape or leaf size at our nursery, although it may be slightly slower growing. Where we do see a huge difference is in the fall color which in addition to the bright yellow and gold of 'Viridis', 'Waterfall' displays wonderful reds and oranges washed across the leaves. 10 year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 6-8 Feet Spring Color: Green Summer Color: Green Fall Color: Yellow, Orange Sun Tolerance: Partial Planting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil Our 1 Gallon and 3 Gallon sizes are available for shipping and in store pickup. Our larger sizes (7 Gallon and bigger) are only available for in store pickup.
Acer palmatum 'Heartbeat' Red Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
‘Heartbeat’ is an Australian cultivar that is just making its way into the gardening culture of the United States. 'Heartbeat' would be a great addition to any garden. The leaves are extremely dissected with lobes that are held very far apart, making the overall leaf almost appear round. The habit is very low and spreading forming a plant that is much wider than tall. Spring color is more red and less purple than other similar Japanese Maples. As summer approaches leaves turn first bronze then green but this vigorous grower seems to put on new red growth at the tips all summer long even in hot climates. Fall color is crimson.10 year size: Height 2-4 Feet Width 6-8 Feet Spring Color: RedSummer Color: BronzeFall Color: CrimsonSun Tolerance: FullPlanting: Elevated, Well drained soil
Acer palmatum 'Garnet' Red Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
‘Garnet’ is one of our favorite red lace leaf varieties for here in the south. ‘Garnet’ emerges a light red color in spring which deepens and holds through most of the summer. The leaves on this beautifully shaped tree then brighten to a bright garnet color in fall. ‘Garnet’ matures into a wonderful mound shape that is as wide as it is tall. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 Feet Width: 6-8 Feet Spring Color: Red Summer Color: Red Fall Color: Red Sun Tolerance: Full Planting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil Our 1 Gallon and 3 Gallon sizes are available for shipping and in store pickup. Our larger sizes (7 Gallon and bigger) are only available for in store pickup.
Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' Green Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
Its claim to fame is that Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' is considered the only upright dissectum. This is technically correct but the dissected leaf is the only similarity between 'Seiryu' and other dissectums. Actually the leaves are so much smaller, that even the leaves do not have the appearance of other dissectums. That being said, here at Maple Ridge Nurseries we love the plant we affectionately call the "weed" because it is so easy to grow. Seiryu is a fast growing small tree that is mostly vase shaped when young growing wider and much rounder with age. The foliage appears green in spring with a slight red or pink tinge to the margins of each leaf. These margins quickly fade away leaving a very attractive medium green leaf for summer. Sometimes in late summer the colorful margins reappear, but this time a little more orange. Most literature describes the fall color as gold or yellow but I have never seen this except in photos from other parts of the world. In our climate the first cold air may give the tree an orange or red appearance but the leaves will always end up burgundy before dropping. 10 Year Size: Height: 12-14 Feet Width: 12-14 Feet Spring Color: Green Summer Color: Green Fall Color: Red Sun Tolerance: Sun Planting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil Our 1 Gallon and 3 Gallon sizes are available for shipping and in store pickup. Our larger sizes (7 Gallon and bigger) are only available for in store pickup.
Acer palmatum 'Dr. Brown' Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Dr. Brown’ is a gorgeous tree with a name that doesn’t do it justice. ‘Dr. Brown’ leafs out with peach, pink, maroon, and green tones to the delicate foliage that give this tree outstanding spring color. This color eventually fades to green in the summer and then changes to bright orange in the fall. ‘Dr. Brown’ has a very weeping habit that keeps this tree relatively small at maturity. 10 Year Size: Height: 3-5 feet Width: 4-6 feet
Acer palmatum 'Dixie Spirit' Upright Lace Leaf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Dixie Spirit’ is one of several different dissectum varieties that grows more upright rather than weeping. My father once told me that if anyone could ever discover a red version of ‘Seiryu’, then they would be a millionaire. While, I’ve learned that this was probably hyperbole, I have long been searching for a tree that fit this description. There are several trees currently on the market that come close such as ‘Lionheart’ and ‘English Lace’ but neither of these varieties have quite the same upward growth as ‘Seiryu’.‘Dixie Spirit’ is our introduction that fits into this category. ‘Dixie Spirit’ grows decidedly upright at least while young. We are still monitoring the tree to see if the upright habit continues in perpetuity. ‘Dixie Spirit’ shows off a gorgeous crimson red color in the spring while fading to a bronze or olive green in the summer. This tree shows out once again in the fall with bright red foliage. ‘Dixie Spirit’ can handle full sun even in Georgia with minimal leaf burn. 10 Year Size: Height: 8-10 feet Width: 4-6 feet
Acer palmatum 'Monticello Gardens' Red Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
Acer palmatum ‘Monticello Gardens’ is a lace leaf Japanese maple with a weeping, sprawling habit. There are some red Japanese maples that hold their red color well in the summer and then there is ‘Monticello Gardens’. This tree stays red all the time. ‘Monticello Gardens’ is red in the spring, it is red in the summer and then it is, of course, red in the fall. I imagine if it wasn’t deciduous, it would find a way to be red in the winter as well. ‘Monticello Gardens’ is the perfect Japanese maple for the people that don’t want their red Japanese maple to lose its color in the summer.10 Year Size: Height: 3-5 feet Width: 4-6 feet
Acer palmatum 'Ornatum' Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
One of the older dissectums in cultivation in Europe having been grown for well over 100 years. It is still popular today although competition from varieties that hold color longer into summer has caused production to decrease. Emerging green dusted with red in shady areas to a rusty red in more sun, 'Ornatum' forms a large graceful shrub when mature. While very heat tolerant 'Ornatum' does prefer light shade in hot climates. The unusual thing is that this plant is one of the few red dissectums that turns orange or even yellow-orange in fall.10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 Feet Width 6-8 Feet
Acer palmatum 'Dissectum Nigrum' Red Dwarf Japanese Maplefrom $39.00
‘Disscetum Nigrum’ is known for the silver hairs covering the emerging foliage in early spring, this old cultivar is a great addition to any garden. Although originally found in Japan, 'Dissectum Nigrum' was named in the Netherlands in 1938. Spring color is dark red and holds well into the summer in most areas but does bronze before turning an attractive olive green rather quickly in hot climates. Fall color is bright red. This is a large irregular mounding dissectum with personality. 10 Year Size: Height: 5-7 Feet Width: 6-8 FeetSpring color: Dark RedSummer Color: RedFall Color: RedSun Tolerance: FullPlanting: Elevated, Well Drained Soil
