This plant seems quite vigorous due to the fact that it always seems to have new growth at its tips, definitely odd for a plant that averages 2-3 inches of new growth per year. The fall color of 'Cupid' is bright yellow to orange. 'Cupid' grows with a compact and dense nature and will only develop into a dwarf tree at maturity. 'Cupid' is an excellent coral bark Japanese maple for anyone interested in adding a coral bark Japanese maple to their garden, but they are concerned with the space that a traditional 'Sango kaku' coral bark Japanese maple requires.

Acer palmatum 'Scolopenrifolium rubrum' is a great red linearlobum type Japanese maple that is often confused with some of the other linearlobum varieties and maybe even used as a catch all name for red linearlobum plants. Our cultivar however is very distinct. The long narrow lobs are somewhat wider than plants like Red Pygmy but more narrow than 'Beni otake'. It is definitely different than 'Atrolineare' but may be synonymous with Keiser. While the overall growth tends to be slow and bushy sometimes new limbs can grow three or 4 feet in just a few weeks. These limbs are generally unattractive and should be pruned. The spring color is a very attractive dark red holding into well summer before turning bronze. Fall color is wonderful and often described as raspberry red.
