‘Green Cascade’ is a cascading or weeping form of Acer japonicum. The leaves on mature plants can be quite large. These leaves are deeply dissected and in spring are a brilliant bright green. The overall shape of Green Cascade is quite different than most weeping Acer palmatums in that it looks more like a sprawling octopus, when young, than a tight bush. It does, however become much more dense with age. Like other japonicums it is in fall that ‘Green Cascade’ really shines. Acer japonicum ‘Taki-no-gawa’ is a full moon Japanese maple with huge leaves. These leaves emerge lime green in the spring with small red flowers. Acer japonicum 'Ed Woods' is a Full Moon Japanese Maple with some of largest leaves of any Japanese maple. These large leaves are emerald green in the spring and summer. In the fall they turn to a bright orange and eventually red. ‘Lovett’ is an Acer japonicum that has a very nice growth habit forming a small round topped tree at maturity. 'Lovett' has slightly smaller leaves than many japonicums. The large leaves on ‘Vitifolium’ are what give it its name as they resemble the leaves of a grape vine. These large leaves emerge green with a bronze hue before maturing to a darker green in late spring and into the summer. This tree also has more prominent flowers in the spring than most Japanese Maples. These small red flowers really stand out on the light green spring foliage. However, the fall is when ‘Vitifolium’ really shows out with a display of yellows and oranges and reds all over the tree. ‘Vitifolium’ is a strong and fast grower that will reach 10-15 feet tall in about 10 years.
