Japanese Maples and Conifers

Acer palmatum ‘Pink Filigree’ is a beautiful lace leaf variety of Japanese maple with excellent colors throughout the year. ‘Pink Filigree’ leafs out a bright pinkish orange in the spring that changes to an attractive red. In summer, the leaves are a mix of green and orange. Fall color is a bright red. ‘Pink filigree’ has fine, feathery foliage that gives the tree a delicate look.10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Margaret B’ is an upright growing Japanese maple with dark burgundy color. This color holds very well through the summer. Fall color is a bright red. The dark colors of ‘Margaret B’ make this upright growing tree really stand out in the landscape. ‘Margaret B’ has an elegant, slender structure and grows into a medium sized tree at maturity.10 Year Size: Height: 10-12 feet Width: 4-6 feet

The name simply means green cascading which perfectly describes this great little tree. In spring the green color has a slightly blue tint that separates it from other green dissectums. At one time all green dissectums were probably called 'Ao shidare' but over time this cultivar became dominant and rightly so.  Growth  is very strong and pendulous. Ao shidare will tolerate full sun better than most green dissectum cultivars but could still benefit from some shade in hotter climates. Fall color is wonderful if not predictable, sometimes mostly yellow, other times mostly orange but usually a showy mix of both.10 Year Size:  Height:  3-6 Feet    Width:  4-8 Feet

Acer palmatum ‘Julia’ is a stunning Japanese maple with reticulated variegation. ‘Julia’ leafs out with a glowing green color to the leaves with a lighter center than on the edges. The dark green veining is very pronounces and creates the reticulated variegation. This color does fade in the summer, but ‘Julia’ puts on another show in the fall with an array of yellows and oranges. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Oshu shidare’ really makes a statement in contrast with the green veins and green bark standing out against the predominately red surface of the leaves. Add these great characteristics to a growth habit that is slightly pendulous and mounding and you have a star in the garden. In spring leaves emerge cherry red then turn more brick red as late spring comes along and then olive green for summer. Fall color is a bright fiery red. 10 Year Size:  Height 6-8 Feet  Width 7-9 Feet

Acer palmatum ‘Peve Dave’ is a shorter bushy Japanese maple with unusually shaped leaves. The leaves of ‘Peve Dave’ are typically thinner than a traditional broadleaf Japanese maple but thicker than a linearilobum typle. These unique leaves emerge red in the spring before fading to a burgundy and then green in the summer. The leaves then turn a bright red in the fall. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Vic’s Broom’ is a fast growing dwarf Japanese maple with tiny leaves. These small leaves emerge in spring light green with red edges. The leaves transition to solid green by late spring. The foliage of ‘Vic’s Broom’ remains green until fall when the leaves turn yellow and orange. ‘Vic’s Broom’ will develop long leaders when young, but it will eventually form a dense shrub.10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Yeager Red’ is a small witches broom Japanese maple with good red color in the spring. This red turns to a burgundy in the summer. Fall color is a bright red. ‘Yeager Red’ will develop into a small shrubby tree with a dense and compact habit.10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 4-6 feet

'Yubae' was originally selected be J.D. Vertrees for its black on red variegation. This variegation however is seldom if ever seen. That being said this very strong growing red variety is still highly desirable. The normally dark red foliage appears to change color depending on which way the light hits it due to its translucent leaves. Fall color is red and very good. 10 Tear size:  Height: 8-10 Feet Width: 6-8 Feet

Acer palmatum ‘Scarlet Princess’ is one of the very smallest lace leaf varieties of Japanese maple in existence. ‘Scarlet Princess’ was found as a witches broom on ‘Crimson Queen’. This gives ‘Scarlet Princess’ similar qualities to that of the popular Crimson Queen, while staying very small and compact. ‘Scarlet Princess’ leafs out in the spring with bright red foliage. While this color fades in the summer, the foliage of ‘Scarlet Princess’ gets bright red again in the fall. ‘Scarlet Princess should maintain a very small and dense form at maturity. 10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 Width: 2-4

Pinus parviflora ‘Aoi’ is a dwarf form of Japanese White Pine with exceptional blue color. ‘Aoi’ can grow into a small, upright tree if left alone or can be kept quite neat as a dense 1-2 foot tree with regular candle pruning. ‘Aoi’ is known for its short, blue needles which creates a very attractive specimen in the landscape.10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 feet Width: 2-4 feet

Picea abies ‘Acrocona’ is an upright form of Norway Spruce with a drooping habit to its branches. ‘Acrocona’ forms cones at the ends of its branches that contribute to this drooping habit. These cones have a reddish pink color that contrasts extraordinarily well against the green foliage. ‘Acrocona’ develops into a rather larger tree, but nothing too large that it can’t be used as a centerpiece in most landscapes. 10 Year Size: Height: 12-14 feet Width: 12-14 feet

Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Fernspray Gold’ is a golden fernspray hinoki cypress that grows into a medium sized pyramid shape. ‘Fernspray Gold’ develops long armed branches with golden, flat, delicate foliage. ‘Fernspray Gold’ is an excellent choice for a medium sized evergreen that will provide excellent golden color to any spot in the garden.10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet
