This little maple with very fine dissected leaves is an excellent addition to any garden. Among dissectums only 'Red filigree Lace' and 'Beni komo no su' have finer foliage. 'Red Feathers' does seem to grow faster than it's fine leafed cousins. Starting very bright red in spring the foliage darkens with the heat of summer turning green in hot climates before putting on a wonderful crimson show in fall. Discovered in 1980 and introduced in 1995 by John Vermeullen and Sons nursery this plant was actually a seedling off of the original 'Burgundy Lace' (also a John Vermeullen and Sons introduction in 1945). During evaluation this plant was labeled Rilas Red and occasionally this plant will show up with this incorrect name, leading one to believe that some plants escaped the nursery before introduction. 10 years Size: Height 2-3 Feet Width 3-5 Feet

‘JJ Fire Red ’ has deeply divided red leaves that appear in early spring with a beautiful red with white pubescence, first bronzing and then turning more green by summer in hot climates. A small spreading tree with great fall color that ranges from yellow to orange to red.  A remarkable new introduction from acclaimed maple breeder Talon Buchholz, Acer palmatum 'Waveleaf' is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after Japanese maples among collectors and enthusiasts. Acer palmatum ‘Sagara nishiki’ is a variegated Japanese maple with excellent yellow variegation splashed all over the foliage. The yellow variegation is more strongly concentrated along the edges of the leaves but there can be specks and splashes all over some leaves. The base color of this variegated tree is a light green in the spring and a darker green in the summer. Fall color is yellow to orange. 10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Baby Ghost’ is the smallest of the “Ghost” series of reticulated Japanese maples. ‘Baby Ghost’ first leafs out with an amber color leaf that transitions to red. Leaves then fade to burgundy and ultimately to green which maintains throughout the summer. Fall color is orange-red. ‘Baby Ghost’ has excellent reticulated variegation in early spring, but that mostly fades for the duration of the summer. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 4-6 feet

Thuja occidentalis 'Wansdyke Silver' is an upright growing arborvitae with dark green foliage with splashes of silvery white variegation across the tree. 'Wansdyke Silver' grows upright with a conical shape. The best characteristic of this conifer is the white variegation sprinkled across the foliage. Abies koreana 'Kohouts Ice Breaker' is a highly sought after dwarf Korean fir. 'Kohouts Ice Breaker' was found as a witches broom on a mature 'Horstmann's Silberlocke'. 'Kohouts Ice Breaker' is a very small and slow growing cultivar growing no more than a few inches per year. At maturity 'Kohouts Ice Breaker' develops into a short, rounded little shrub. In addition to the small stature, the foliage is the distinguishing characteristic. The needles are a silver color that curl upward just like the parent plant 'Horstmann's Silberlocke'. Pinus sylvestris 'Gold Coin' is known for its stunning golden yellow color. This color is especially pronounced in cooler winter temperatures. 'Gold Coin' has an upright habit that will develop into a short dense tree. 'Gold Coin' is one of the best pines for golden winter color. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet   Width: 2-4 feet 

Pinus thumbergii ‘Kotobuki’ is a narrowly growing upright Japanese black pine. ‘Kotobuki’ is a dwarf selection that will only reach four or five feet at maturity. This moderately growing pine has attractive, dark green foliage and performs great in full sun. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 2-3 feet

‘Shojo Shidare’ does very well in hot climates. The spring color is purple and holds well into the summer even in Georgia. Fall color is almost scarlet and very strong.  A fast growing, very pendulous dissectum, 'Shojo shidare' will mound into an excellent specimen in just a few years. 'Shojo shidare' is rare in the trade because it can be difficult to propogate, which is all the better for you collectors if you should be lucky enough to find one.
