Acer palmatum 'Dragon Master' is a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple with Small, Broad Leaves with Bright Yellow Color Acer palmatum ‘Dragon Master’ is a bright yellow version of the popular weeping Japanese maple, ‘Ryusei’. Acer palmatum ‘Dragon Master’ is a weeping dwarf Japanese maple with some of the most pendulous growing branches of any Japanese maple in existence. 'Dragon Master' grows straight down with a dramatic weeping growth habit. With this extreme growth habit 'Dragon Master' won't achieve much height at all without staking. The natural growth of 'Dragon Master' will create a mounding ground cover on its own. 'Dragon Master' is generally staked up to a certain height then allowed to fall to the ground making a beautiful flowing waterfall like affect. The most unusual thing about 'Dragon Master' aside from its bright yellow foliage is that it has this extreme weeping growth habit but is the leaves are fully palmate instead of the traditionally lacy leaves of most weeping Japanese maples. The leaves of 'Dragon Master' are bright yellow and very attractively star shaped. Most cascading varieties have dissected leaves which makes 'Dragon Master' one of the most unique varieties of weeping dwarf Japanese maples there is. ‘Dragon Master’ has very bright yellow leaves in the spring. These yellow leaves are about as bright yellow as any other Japanese maple that we grow. Yellow Japanese maples like 'Dragon Master' do a great job of contrasting with the popular red Japanese maples. The leaves somewhat to a chartreuse green in the summer before turning orange to bright red in the fall. Acer palmatum 'Dragon Master' is a dwarf Japanese maple that will grow best in partial sun in basically all climates. 'Dragon Master' should grow perfectly well in zones 5 through 9. Originating as a witches broom, this little guy will add interesting color and texture to any garden. Deeply divided leaves emerge in spring decidedly yellow with red edges in more sun. Fall color is excellent and mostly orange with hints of yellow. Tolerates full sun in most climates but prefers at least a short break from the afternoon sun in hotter areas. The name, ‘Octopus’, aptly describes this cultivar with long aching branches that spread like tentacles in all directions. 'Octopus' forms a large spreading irregular mound. The deeply dissected leaves emerge a bright pink red in early spring before turning to dark purple. When summers heat arrives the leaves first bronze before becoming mostly dark green in hot climates. Acer palmatum 'Ryugu' is a very exciting variegated Japanese maple. 'Ryugu' has about as much variegation to the leaves as any other Japanese maple. The speckled white variegation is quite consistent and should persist year over year. The other thing that is so interesting about this Japanese maple is it's dwarf, compact growth habit. 'Ryugu' will stay quite small with a dense and compact habit. The leaves are green with mostly creamy white variegation speckled all over the leaves. When fall comes 'Ryugu' catches on fire with very bright orange-red color. 10 Year Size: Height: 3-5 feet   Width: 2-4 feet

The foliage of ’Adrian’s Compact’ is predominantly burgundy but is highlighted by the bright red of the new leaves. Acer palmatum 'Caperci Dwarf' is a dwarf Japanese maple with a compact growth habit. The leaves of 'Caperci dwarf' are green with red edges in the spring. These leaves then turn yellow to orange in the fall.  10 Year Size: Height: 2-3 feet   Width: 2-3 feet 

Great small maple that will grow  wider than tall, 'Tama hime' emerges in spring with orange tips to the leaves before turning green for the summer. Fall color ranges from bronze to orange. 10 year size: Height: 1-2 Feet   Width: 2-3 Feet

Acer palmatum ‘Lima Gold’ is a dwarf Japanese maple with bright, lime-green foliage. This color holds pretty well into the summer. Fall color then ranges from bright yellow to orange. ‘Lima gold’ stays very small at maturity and maintains a dense shrubby habit. 10 Year Size: Height: 2-4 Width: 2-4

Acer palmatum ‘Tattoo’ is a fantastic dwarf Japanese maple with similar characteristics to ‘Mikawa Yatsabusa’. While similar, ‘Tattoo’ grows slower, stays smaller, and has more deeply divided leaves than ‘Mikawa yatsabusa’. ‘Tattoo’ leafs out with lime green leaves in the spring that turn to a dark green by summer. Fall color is then yellow to orange. Acer palmatum ‘Tattoo’ is one of our very favorite dwarf Japanese maples, and it is very hard to come by. 10 Year size: Height: 2-3 feet Width: 2-3 feet

The new leaves in spring are light green almost yellow and darken as they age giving the entire tree a two-toned effect that is quite striking. Although we do not recommend this plant for full sun in the Southeast, if you place it where it can get direct morning or late evening sun the new growth as it first appears will be tinted red. Acer palmatum ‘Bewely’s Red’ is a beautiful red lace leaf Japanese maple. This Dissectum is unique in that it grows more upright than most other lace leaf varieties. ‘Bewely’s Red’ has wonderful red leaves in spring that hold their color well throughout the year. ‘Bewely’s Red’ also performs well in full sun even in hot climates.10 Year Size: Height: 6-8 feet Width: 6-8 feet

Acer palmatum Hoshi Zora' is a Japanese maple with a dramatic weeping habit. 'Hoshi Zora' is very similar to the ever popular 'Ryusei'. 'Hoshi Zora' has bright green leaves in the spring that darken to an emerald green in the summer. Fall color is a bright and stunning orange. 'Hoshi Zora' grows with mostly just a downward, weeping habit. 'Hoshi Zora' will need to be staked to achieve any measurable height. This makes 'Hoshi Zora' a fantastic tree for planters or tall pots. 10 Year Size: Height: 1-2 feet   Width: 4-6 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Anticipation’ is a Maple Ridge Nursery introduction that we have had some fun with over the past few years. It is a beautiful red lace leaf that seems to have an irregular growth habit. It’s most unique feature however, is how late this tree emerges in the spring. This is where the name ‘Anticipation comes from. ‘Anticipation’ routinely waits until the middle to end of April here in Georgia to leaf out, easily the last cultivar at our nursery to do so. There were many years that we thought the tree was dead because it had been so long. This may not seem like a benefit at first, but this trait protects ‘Anticipation’ from any late freezes or frosts. Regardless of the tree’s quirks, ‘Anticipation’ is a beautiful Japanese maple that has excellent red color in the spring that holds quite well throughout the summer even in the heat. Fall color is then a nice bright red. The growth habit is still something we are evaluating, but thus far to have a rather unique shape while becoming the same size as most other Japanese maples in this category. 10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 4-6 feet
