Acer palmatum ‘Englishtown’ is an excellent, upright growing tree for tight spaces or smaller landscapes. ‘Englishtown’ is a dwarf Japanese maple that doesn’t typically have the same compact, shrubby habit of other dwarfs. ‘Englishtown’ will have a more tree like shape while remaining relatively small. ‘Englsihtown’ has dark red leaves in the spring that will usually keep their color very well into the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Enkan’ has very fine linearilobum foliage and a small compact growth habit. More gardeners should find a spot for 'Enkan' in the garden. In spring foliage emerges a deep wine color and holds its red into the summer very well. Fall color ranges from orange red to deep red. Some palmate leaves appear on new growth but older foliage is quite narrow. Acer palmatum 'Garnet' will Provide Great Red Color for a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple in Full Sun Acer palmatum ‘Garnet’ is a great weeping dwarf Japanese maple for red color. ‘Garnet’ emerges a light red color in spring which deepens and holds through most of the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Green Globe’ is a green, lace leaf Japanese maple that does not have as much of a weeping habit as most lace leaf Japanese maples. ‘Green Globe’ has green leaves in the spring and summer. Acer palmatum ‘Hime Shojo’ is an awesome little Japanese maple discovered in Japan before 1994 that is a really exciting addition to the U.S. market. While the new growth is a very bright almost cherry red the small deeply divided leaves soon harden off to the classic dark maroon that the Japanese refer to as shojo. This continues much of the summer, although a relatively small plant, 'Hime shojo' seems to put on bright red new growth much of the year. This dense little shrubby tree holds its color very well long into the summer and even all summer long in cooler parts of its range. Although the best colors are achieved in full sun, and it will tolerate full sun in most areas, a little shade at some part of the day is appreciated in hotter climates. Fall color is a bright cherry red and better than many small cultivars. Acer palmatum Hoshi Zora' is a Japanese maple with a dramatic weeping habit. 'Hoshi Zora' is very similar to the ever popular 'Ryusei'. 'Hoshi Zora' has bright green leaves in the spring that darken to an emerald green in the summer. Fall color is a bright and stunning orange. 'Hoshi Zora' grows with mostly just a downward, weeping habit. 'Hoshi Zora' will need to be staked to achieve any measurable height. New growth appears chartreuse edged in pink or red before hardening off to a very nice deep green. The texture of this plant with it's dime sized wrinkled leaves layered over one another is amazing. This plant seems quite vigorous due to the fact that it always seems to have new growth at its tips, definitely odd for a plant that averages 2-3 inches of new growth per year. Acer palmatum ‘Jerre Schwartz’ was introduced by Billy Schwartz, owner of Green Mansions Nursery in Pennsylvania. He named the unique cultivar for his mother Jerre. Acer palmatum ‘Jerre Schwartz’ has interestingly sharp toothed and deeply divided small leaves emerge cherry red in early spring before quickly becoming darker and more maroon and then bronze before turning totally green for summer. New cheery colored growth in summer provides a cool contrast to the older green foliage. Found as a witches broom the center lobes of some leaves will show the characteristic shortened middle lobe. Acer palmatum 'Kiyohime' is a Fantastic Compact Dwarf Japanese Maple Perfect for Small Landscapes, Containers, and Bonsai Acer palmatum 'Kiyohime' is a compact dwarf Japanese maple that will grow much wider than tall. For a plant that never gets much more than 2 feet tall 'Kiyohime' is relatively fast growing and will become a specimen in the garden after just a few years. The dense and lateral growth habit make 'Kiyohime' almost look like a table at maturity. The size and shape make 'Kiyohime' a perfect companion Japanese maple for different spaces in the landscape. 'Kiyohime' emerges in spring with red tips to the leaves before turning green for the majority of the spring and summer.
