The new leaves in spring are light green almost yellow and darken as they age giving the entire tree a two-toned effect that is quite striking. Although we do not recommend this plant for full sun in the Southeast, if you place it where it can get direct morning or late evening sun the new growth as it first appears will be tinted red. Acer palmatum 'Orangeola' is a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple that Changes Personality All Year Long Acer palmatum 'Orangeola' is one of the fastest growing weeping dwarf Japanese maple varieties there is, but it still does not attain height very quickly. 'Orangeola' has a very pendulous habit and will have quite the waterfall look as it grows. 'Orangeola' can be a fast growing weeping Japanese maple especially when young which can create long shoots of weeping branches. This growth eventually helps 'Orangeola' develop into a low mounding Japanese maple that is a great for corners and centerpieces. One of the older dissectums in cultivation in Europe having been grown for well over 100 years. It is still popular today although competition from varieties that hold color longer into summer has caused production to decrease.  Emerging green dusted with red in shady areas to a rusty red in more sun, 'Ornatum' forms a large graceful shrub when mature. While very heat tolerant 'Ornatum' does prefer light shade in hot climates. Acer palmatum 'Red Dragon' is a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple with Brilliant Red Color Acer palmatum 'Red Dragon' is a dwarf Japanese maple that is extremely popular for its brilliant red color. 'Red Dragon' will stay more red during summer than most varieties. The coarse leaves begin the spring dark red and become more red as temperatures increase. As summer temperatures reach their peak and most other red varieties have turned green 'Red Dragon' still has a good bit of red left on it's leaves. Fall color is a dramatic crimson red. 'Stella Rossa' translates to Red Star. The habit of this cultivar is decidedly weeping, delicate and graceful. While it tolerates full sun, 'Stella Rossa' would like to have a little shade in hotter climates. The foliage of 'Stella Rossa' emerges bright red in early spring holding the bright red color well into summer before turning darker red and eventually burgundy. In very hot climates it turns bronze by September but never totally green like most other red maples in our nursery. The leaf of 'Washi-no-o’ is a little more coarse than some dissectums and the margins of each lobe are cut more regularly and less deep than most dissectums giving it a very unique texture. This mounding shrub type maple tolerates more sun than most green lace leafs. I have even grown this cultivar in full sun in Atlanta, Georgia but some shade would be appreciated.
