Acer palmatum 'Ruslyn in the Pink' is a Wonderful Dwarf Japanese Maple with Large Pinkish-Red Leaves Acer palmatum 'Ruslyn in the Pink' has rather large leaves for a dwarf. The foliage first appears pink or orange pink in early spring depending on the amount of sunlight it receives. The foliage begins to darken to red and then purple within a few weeks. As summer takes over from spring older growth eventually fades from purple to bronze and eventually olive green. Any late summer growth comes out with the pink color from early spring. The fall color crimson and is very dramatic for a small tree. 'Ruslyn in the Pink' was discovered by Vern Palmeter at Ruslyn Nursery in New Platz, New York. 'Ruslyn in the Pink' is a unique dwarf Japanese maple tree with an upright growth habit and a uniform branching structure. 'Ruslyn in the Pink' is dense and compact but still open enough to have a standard tree appearance. 'Ruslyn in the Pink' will only grow to about 5 or 6 feet tall and only a few feet wide. 'Ruslyn in the Pink' will grow at a moderately fast growth rate for a dwarf Japanese maple. 'Ruslyn in the Pink' is a very hardy dwarf Japanese maple that can be grown all over the United States. Acer palmatum ‘Seiun kaku’ is a Japanese cultivar has bright green leaves and red petioles. Similar to 'Mikawa yatsubusa' in that the leaves are layered one over the other like tiles on a roof but 'Seuin kaku' is much faster growing developing into a small more open and airy tree. 'Seiun kaku' finishes most years with a very nice deep red fall color. The Japanese name means blue-green tower or palace in the clouds. 10 year size: Height: 5-6 Feet   Width: 2-3 Feet 

Acer palmatum 'Shidiva Gold' is a smaller form of 'Aoyagi'. 'Shidiva Gold' is known for its bright green foliage, green bark, and compact structure. The leaves of 'Shidiva Gold' emerge in the spring with a bright, chartreuse green color that only slightly fades into a light green in the summer. Acer palmatum 'Sister Ghost' emerges yellow with dark veins in early spring. Sometimes in early spring leaves have a slight pink cast. By summer foliage is mostly green with a few specks of yellow to let you know this plant was variegated. Fall color is orange with hints of yellow and red. Generally growing wider than tall this small tree does best in partial shade in all but the coolest areas. Very similar to 'Sango kaku' but smaller, 'Winter Flame' can vary greatly under different growing conditions. If stressed this little guy hardly grows at all and can be a little finicky. If happy in its environment it can actually grow fairly quick although still a good bit slower than 'Sango kaku'. We find that giving it well drained soil and adequate moisture is the key to happiness for this little maple. Spring color is lime green becoming darker in summer and then yellow to orange and yellow in fall.
