Acer palmatum 'Matthew' Dwarf Japanese Maple
I purchased this Japanese maple as a replacement of one in our garden that had been transplanted last Spring. The original tree did well but was always temperamental and with the unprecedented snow fall in the South during mid January 2025, I feared this tree would not make it.
So, with a watchful eye I monitored the tree and when it didn't show sign of growth I passed judgement on it and decided to get its replacement. Those led to the A.p. Matthew from Maple Ridge Nursery. The tree arrived timely and with the budding leave ready for Spring.
Shockingly, the original tree began to push new buds and soon the tree had leaves and it seems to have survived not only the snow fall/cold temperatures but also my disbelief in its ability to survive in a new location on top of the challenging weather during its first year after transplanting.
So, I'm delighted to report not only the survival and future in our garden of one tree but also its intended replacement, A.p. Matthew. It's also strengthened my belief in these trees as they are the summit of our garden.
About 2 months ago, I purchased Acer palmatum 'Matthew' to place in my son Matthew's memorial garden. I thought it was the perfect tree due to it's dwarf size. Rather than plant it immediately, I decided to leave it in a container through the summer months before permanently planting it.
It is a small delicate tree with beautiful gold/green leaves and is thriving and healthy. I am looking forward to seeing it's beautiful colors this upcoming Fall. I am very pleased with the growth, health and appearance of this tree, and may purchase it again in the future. I was also very impressed by how well it was packaged and how quickly it shipped.

Though a bit small, but leaves are pretty beautiful.
I received a healthy Hot Blonde and it’s doing fine in the hot weather. New leaves have some orange pink colors and just needs some time to get more growth and fill out
Fast shipping, received within four days. Leaves all dried up and deformed but starting to have new leaf growth after almost two weeks. Expected this to happen
with the current shipping weather. This tree is very vigorous. No complaints. Looking forward to see how it looks with the new growth in a few weeks.
I recommend Maple Ridge Nursery and will order some more trees when the weather improves.

Ordered 5 maple trees in the heat of summer. Shipped within four days but arrived dehydrated and leaves scorched. Knew this was a possibility and over a week later still doing good. No complaints. Great service.
Will order from Maple Ridge again when the heat abates.

I have ordered twice from this company. I am so impressed with how they ship their plants. Both plants looked great when I received them and they still do in my garden. I will reorder from them again.

We are constantly putting trees in larger pots to allow them to grow and not become root bound. Therefore, many of our trees may have loose dirt in the pot until the roots fill out the container.
All of our Japanese Maples are grafted with a side veneer graft unless specifically stated as seedlings. This style of grafting is most commonly used in the nursery industry and allows these trees to still become excellent bonsai as the graft scar will be no longer visible when the trees age.
