Acer palmatum 'Ruby Lace' is a gorgeous lace leaf Japanese maple with a bright, ruby red color to the foliage in the spring. This color does fade a bit in the summer. The leaves turn to a bright yellow to orange in the fall, which is a very unusual fall color for a Japanese maple with red spring foliage. 'Ruby Lace' is a fast growing lace leaf Japanese maple with a low, spreading habit.

Acer palmatum ‘Dai’ is a newer Japanese maple from Korea with an exceptional weeping habit. The leaves of ‘Dai’ are quite fine compared to other similar lace leaf Japanese maples. ‘Dai’ emerges in spring with a bright red color to the foliage with pink and orange undertones. ‘Dai’ then turns green by summer. ‘Dai’ then shows out again in the fall with an array of fiery reds and oranges. ‘Dai’ is a small growing Japanese maple with a strong weeping habit. 'Stella Rossa' translates to Red Star. The habit of this cultivar is decidedly weeping, delicate and graceful. While it tolerates full sun, 'Stella Rossa' would like to have a little shade in hotter climates. The foliage of 'Stella Rossa' emerges bright red in early spring holding the bright red color well into summer before turning darker red and eventually burgundy. In very hot climates it turns bronze by September but never totally green like most other red maples in our nursery. While it may be a little slower growing than many of the dissectums it holds its bright red color in the Southeast better than almost every other cultivar. ‘Shojo Shidare’ does very well in hot climates. The spring color is purple and holds well into the summer even in Georgia. Fall color is almost scarlet and very strong. A fast growing, very pendulous dissectum, 'Shojo shidare' will mound into an excellent specimen in just a few years. 'Shojo shidare' is rare in the trade because it can be difficult to propogate, which is all the better for you collectors if you should be lucky enough to find one. Acer palmatum ‘Dragon Tears’ is a semi-pendulous tree that grows more out rather than up or down. ‘Dragon Tears’ will get some height, but its growth habit will result in a tree that is at least as wide as it is tall. ‘Dragon Tears’ has small, deeply divided, broad leaves. These leaves have a nice, deep burgundy color in the spring. The leaves will fade somewhat in the summer, but should always maintain at least a hint of burgundy. The the fall, ‘Dragon Tears’ displays a nice orange-red fall color that will put on a show.

With one of the most dissected leaves you will ever see on a Japanese maple 'Red Filigree Lace' has been a highly sought after "collectors plant" for many years. Originally propagated from a chance seedling by Will Curtis in Sherwood, Oregon, this plant will become an eye-catching topic of conversation in any garden. Very pendulous the habit is mounding and very low unless staked or grafted on a standard. 'Red Filigree Lace' probably holds it' red color in summer in the Southeastern U.S. better than any red cultivar of Japanese maple. It does however require some shade. Amazingly it will hold its color even in somewhat shady conditions. Given perfect growing conditions it is not only a reliable plant but in some instances becomes quite vigorous. Unfortunately in hot climates it is very slow growing and is susceptible to over watering when young. In very early spring the delicate looking foliage is decidedly red becoming darker purple in summer before turning crimson in fall. Do not let the intricate finely cut lacy leaf fool you, as long as you provide a well-drained environment 'Red Filigree Lace' is a very sturdy and hardy plant that any gardener should feel lucky to have.
