Pinus parviflora ‘Goldylocks’ is a dwarf Japanese white pine with golden variegation to otherwise green foliage. ‘Goldylocks’ is a short, upright growing pine that shouldn’t reach more than 4 feet at maturity if that. The golden color is best displayed in nearly full sun situations. ‘Goldylocks’ is also known for its small, attractive cones. ‘Goldylocks’ is most likely synonymous with Pinus Parviflora ‘Tenysu kazu’, however there is enough conflicting information that we keep both varieties labelled separately. Pictures were taken from our ‘Goldylocks’ growing in heavy shade. Notice the lack of golden color. Pinus thunbergii ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’ is a Japanese black pine that is known for its rough, cork bark that it develops with age. ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’ has medium green needles with medium length similar to many other Japanese black pine cultivars. ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’ has a dwarf-like growth habit that does not get very tall. In fact, much of ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’s growth is lateral.
