Pinus parviflora ‘Goldylocks’ is a dwarf Japanese white pine with golden variegation to otherwise green foliage. ‘Goldylocks’ is a short, upright growing pine that shouldn’t reach more than 4 feet at maturity if that. The golden color is best displayed in nearly full sun situations. ‘Goldylocks’ is also known for its small, attractive cones. ‘Goldylocks’ is most likely synonymous with Pinus Parviflora ‘Tenysu kazu’, however there is enough conflicting information that we keep both varieties labelled separately. Pictures were taken from our ‘Goldylocks’ growing in heavy shade. Notice the lack of golden color. This plant was found in England at Hillier's Nursery in the 1960's and named for the head propagator at the time, Graham Adcock. The very short dark blue-green needles are in perfect proportion to the small plant giving even a young specimen the appearance of a very old tree.

Pinus thunbergii ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’ is a Japanese black pine that is known for its rough, cork bark that it develops with age. ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’ has medium green needles with medium length similar to many other Japanese black pine cultivars. ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’ has a dwarf-like growth habit that does not get very tall. In fact, much of ‘Kyokko yatsubusa’s growth is lateral.
