'Takao' is an old cultivar dating back to 1695 and recorded in Japanese literature. I purchased my first 'Takao' in 2006 and planted it at the Michigan Preserve when I arrived there in 2009. It is an amazing cultivar noted for its Autumn color as pictured here. I now have one at the New York Preserve and I will add, finding these older cultivar are becoming more difficult to find as there are many "new" cultivars with all the "Bells and Whistles" to dazzle the eyes of many collectors. These traditional cultivars are as beautiful if not more so than the new trees on the block. I took this photograph at the Michigan Preserve in 2016.
This tree in my opinion has the best color change of all. It has yellows, orange, pink, green and all colors are bright. This tree is so hard to find I’m glad I found it here. This tree is so beautiful even local Japanese go out just to view this specific tree in Mt. Takao.
The tree was packaged well and arrived in great condition. I've had it for a couple of weeks now, and it is doing well. I was so glad I purchased it as it is much prettier in person.
Acer palmatum 'Takao' is a wonderful cultivar and very hard to find in the nursery trade so I purchased two. Both were vigorous trees of quite a nice size. I was very satisfied with this purchase.

Well, I had one before ; it was so beautiful in my big red pot. This new one is tiny. So, it will take some time to grow to that size again. We shall see!
My wife says I have a tree problem. More specifically a japanese maple problem. Time will tell if this scotch pine is just a fling.

I thought this tree was a different cultivars when I bought it; however, I was not disappointed. It is a beautiful Acer P and arrived in good health. I am looking forward to seeing what it displays in the coming seasons.
'Mahogany' is an outstanding cultivar that deserves to be in anyone's top 10 list of Japanese maples. It's Spring color is a beautiful and rich mahogany color that stands out from the other more commonly known red-leaf cultivars. It can take full sun during the Summer months in growing zones that exist in the Southeastern United States. I have grown one at the Michigan Preserve and now at the NY Preserve.

With my studies of over 900 different cultivars of Japanese Maples, this Acer Dissectum is a true standout. I have pushed it to its limited regarding direct Summer sunlight and at no time did it lose its color and vitality. It also withstood winter temperatures dropping to -30 below zero F (-34.4 C) without any twig dieback. I recently purchased this Dissectum for the NY Preserve and I planted it just today, May 27, 2026.

This is an outstanding cultivar with deep maroon, and almost black leaves depending on how much sunlight each leaf receives. I am always looking for new and rare cultivars to add to my NY Preserve, and 'Midnight' is one of them. Thank you.
I have been buying JM's from Maple Ridge Nursery for many years now, and their trees are always happy and healthy. I purchased 'Sharazz' for my NY Preserve and it along with others arrived in healthy condition and will now be planted into my Preserve along with the other 425 different culitvars.
