Acer palmatum ‘Felice’ is a slow growing, weeping Japanese maple with wide, deeply cut leaves. ‘Felice’ leafs out in the spring with green leaves that have an orangish hue. This is a very rare reticulated leaf form dissectum. The new leaves in spring are light green sometimes almost white with dark veins. A great plant for many parts of the world. Although very beautiful 'Filigree' is more of a collector plant in hotter climates as summers heat will really do a number on it around August, causing it to drop a large percentage of it's leaves. This is caused by heat and not lack of water. If you must try your luck with this plant in hotter climates please place in a cool shady spot. Acer palmatum ‘Frosted Purple’ is reticulated Japanese maple with outstanding color particularly in the spring. ‘Frosted Purple’ is similar to the Japanese maples in the “Ghost” series in that it has reticulated variegation and the unique, jagged edges to the leaves. ‘Frosted Purple’ comes out a very light purple color in the spring. This color is much brighter than that of ‘Purple Ghost’ or several other reticulated Japanese maples. This color dulls in the summer, but the reticulation typically holds. Acer palmatum ‘Fukinagashi’ is a delicate little linearlobum that may be the most unique Japanese maple in the category. The leaves of ‘Fukinagashi’ emerge in spring dark burgundy, almost black. ‘Fukinagashi’ also has some of the smallest and finest leaves of any linearlobum, which makes it a very interesting tree in the spring. However, unlike most Japanese maples, ‘Fukinagashi’ may be as interesting in the summer as it is in spring. By summertime, the leaves of ‘Fukinagashi’ turns a bright green. The bark of ‘Fukinagashi’ is also a dark almost black color. This contrasts excellently off the bright green leaves, making the leaves appear even brighter. The 3 long lobes on the leaves of ‘Naruto Kaede’ all tend to curl inward so that both the dark green top of the leaf and the glossy back of the leaf are visible giving the tree a very unique striking appearance. This effect becomes even more dramatic in full sun which causes the leaves to curl even more. This look prompts some visitors to the garden to suggest that this plant could use more water. 'Naruto kaede' is fairly fast growing and vase shaped at least when young. Older specimens can reach 60 feet.
