Acer palmatum ‘Dr. Brown’ is a gorgeous tree with a name that doesn’t do it justice. ‘Dr. Brown’ leafs out with peach, pink, maroon, and green tones to the delicate foliage that give this tree outstanding spring color. Acer palmatum 'Sister Ghost' emerges yellow with dark veins in early spring. Sometimes in early spring leaves have a slight pink cast. By summer foliage is mostly green with a few specks of yellow to let you know this plant was variegated. Fall color is orange with hints of yellow and red. Generally growing wider than tall this small tree does best in partial shade in all but the coolest areas. Acer palmatum 'Dragon Master' is a Weeping Dwarf Japanese Maple with Small, Broad Leaves with Bright Yellow Color Acer palmatum ‘Dragon Master’ is a bright yellow version of the popular weeping Japanese maple, ‘Ryusei’. Acer palmatum ‘Dragon Master’ is a weeping dwarf Japanese maple with some of the most pendulous growing branches of any Japanese maple in existence. 'Dragon Master' grows straight down with a dramatic weeping growth habit. With this extreme growth habit 'Dragon Master' won't achieve much height at all without staking. The natural growth of 'Dragon Master' will create a mounding ground cover on its own. 'Dragon Master' is generally staked up to a certain height then allowed to fall to the ground making a beautiful flowing waterfall like affect. The most unusual thing about 'Dragon Master' aside from its bright yellow foliage is that it has this extreme weeping growth habit but is the leaves are fully palmate instead of the traditionally lacy leaves of most weeping Japanese maples. The leaves of 'Dragon Master' are bright yellow and very attractively star shaped. Most cascading varieties have dissected leaves which makes 'Dragon Master' one of the most unique varieties of weeping dwarf Japanese maples there is. ‘Dragon Master’ has very bright yellow leaves in the spring. These yellow leaves are about as bright yellow as any other Japanese maple that we grow. Yellow Japanese maples like 'Dragon Master' do a great job of contrasting with the popular red Japanese maples. The leaves somewhat to a chartreuse green in the summer before turning orange to bright red in the fall. In spring, ‘Baldsmith’ has leaves that emerge much more of a deep red than the burgundy color of most "red" Japanese Maples. Soon after, most of the leaf turns green leaving just the margins a very attractive red. The red and green of the bi color leaf at this stage makes the overall tree appear almost orange and gives it a very distinctive appearance. In some climates this look lasts well into the summer but in hotter climates where some afternoon shade would be greatly appreciated, 'Baldsmith' fades to green as summer takes hold. Acer palmatum 'Rhode Island Red' is a dwarf Japanese maple with much larger leaves than is typical of a dwarf Japanese maple. The leaves of 'Rhode Island Red' are very similar to popular varieties such as 'Bloodgood' and 'Red Emperor'. 'Rhode Island Red' has broad leaves that emerge bright red in spring before darkening to a burgundy color for most of the spring. The color of 'Rhode Island Red' will fade slightly in the summer as most red Japanese maples do. The leaves then turn bright red in the fall. Acer palmatum ‘Englishtown’ is an excellent, upright growing tree for tight spaces or smaller landscapes. ‘Englishtown’ is a dwarf Japanese maple that doesn’t typically have the same compact, shrubby habit of other dwarfs. ‘Englishtown’ will have a more tree like shape while remaining relatively small. ‘Englsihtown’ has dark red leaves in the spring that will usually keep their color very well into the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Pung kil’ is a Japanese maple tree with very thin leaves. These thin leaves emerge in spring with very dark red color. This color mostly remains throughout the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Kamagata’ is dwarf form of palmatum introduced by J.D. Vertrees himself. The small delicate looking leaves first appear in spring edged in purple. By summer they become a nice bright green. Fall color is usually yellow to orange.10 year size: Height: 3-5 Feet   Width: 2-4 Feet    

This cultivar out of Australia has an interesting reddish color in early spring becoming more bronze as summer approaches. Reportedly this bronze color persists most of the summer but in hotter climates the bronze fades to mostly green with a hint of the former color remaining on the leaf edges. Acer palmatum ‘Dragon’s Fire’ is an awesome lace leaf Japanese maple that leafs out bright, fiery red before turning peach, then burgundy, then green in the summer. ‘Dragon’s Fire’ then turns bright orange to red in the fall. Originating as a witches broom, this little guy will add interesting color and texture to any garden. Deeply divided leaves emerge in spring decidedly yellow with red edges in more sun. Fall color is excellent and mostly orange with hints of yellow. Tolerates full sun in most climates but prefers at least a short break from the afternoon sun in hotter areas. Acer palmatum ‘Alpine Sunrise’ is a dwarf Japanese maple that emerges in spring with bright red foliage. This color fades somewhat in the summer before the leaves change back to a bright red in the fall. ‘Alpine Sunrise’ has a dense shrubby habit commensurate with most witches broom varieties.10 Year Size: Height: 4-6 feet Width: 4-6 feet

The leaf of 'Washi-no-o’ is a little more coarse than some dissectums and the margins of each lobe are cut more regularly and less deep than most dissectums giving it a very unique texture. This mounding shrub type maple tolerates more sun than most green lace leafs. I have even grown this cultivar in full sun in Atlanta, Georgia but some shade would be appreciated. Acer palmatum 'Fountain of Youth' is a Japanese maple with a dramatic weeping habit. 'Fountain of Youth' has a matsumurae type leaf with deeply divided lobes. These leaves emerge in spring with a light green color and a pinkish hue. These leaves then change to a medium green for most of the summer. Acer palmatum ‘Orion’ is another great plant from Dick Wolff of Red Maple Nursery in Pennsylvania, The very small deeply divided foliage appears bright cherry red in early spring. As the leaves age they become maroon, copper and olive green and much larger. This little tree always seems to have new growth at the tips with little bursts of red sitting at the branch ends creating an explosion of color like a miniature fireworks display in the garden. 'Sekimori' is known as much for the attractive white striations on the bark as it is for its gracefully growth habit which unlike many dissectums, is slightly more prostrate than pendulous.
