Acer palmatum 'Kiyohime' is a Fantastic Compact Dwarf Japanese Maple Perfect for Small Landscapes, Containers, and Bonsai Acer palmatum 'Kiyohime' is a compact dwarf Japanese maple that will grow much wider than tall. For a plant that never gets much more than 2 feet tall 'Kiyohime' is relatively fast growing and will become a specimen in the garden after just a few years. The dense and lateral growth habit make 'Kiyohime' almost look like a table at maturity. The size and shape make 'Kiyohime' a perfect companion Japanese maple for different spaces in the landscape. 'Kiyohime' emerges in spring with red tips to the leaves before turning green for the majority of the spring and summer. Acer palmatum ‘Seiun kaku’ is a Japanese cultivar has bright green leaves and red petioles. Similar to 'Mikawa yatsubusa' in that the leaves are layered one over the other like tiles on a roof but 'Seuin kaku' is much faster growing developing into a small more open and airy tree. 'Seiun kaku' finishes most years with a very nice deep red fall color. The Japanese name means blue-green tower or palace in the clouds. 10 year size: Height: 5-6 Feet   Width: 2-3 Feet

Acer palmatum 'Oto hime' is a dwarf Japanese maple with small leaves that emerge almost yellow in spring tipped with red edges. In summer foliage turns a nice even green. Fall color is generally orange but sometimes red or yellow. This wonderful little tree was named after Queen Otohime a mermaid queen who ruled a fabled kingdom at the bottom of the sea. 'Murasaki kiyohime' is a small maple that will grow much wider than tall,  Like it's close relative 'Kiyo hime' this cultivar emerges in spring with red tips to the leaves before turning green for the summer. there are very slight differences between the 2 maples. We find that the edge of 'Murasaki kiyohime' to be more maroon red and 'Kiyo hime' to be more orange red but the tint of these colors can be affected by the sun making them hard to  distinguish. Fall color ranges from bronze to orange. 'Murasaki kiyohime' is also slightly more upright when young, often sending up  vertical shoots of a foot or more on very young plants only to spend the rest of it's life thickening up and growing wider. Acer palmatum ‘Tattoo’ is a fantastic dwarf Japanese maple with similar characteristics to ‘Mikawa Yatsabusa’. While similar, ‘Tattoo’ grows slower, stays smaller, and has more deeply divided leaves than ‘Mikawa yatsabusa’. ‘Tattoo’ leafs out with lime green leaves in the spring that turn to a dark green by summer. Fall color is then yellow to orange. Acer palmatum ‘Tattoo’ is one of our very favorite dwarf Japanese maples, and it is very hard to come by. 10 Year size: Height: 2-3 feet Width: 2-3 feet

Acer palmatum ‘Komachi hime’ is a very dense small shrub like maple with bright red edges to the small yellow green leaves in early spring, In summer the red edges fade and the five lobed leaves become dark green throughout. Komachi can a be a horticultural term for dwarf and hime means small leaves. Acer palmatum 'Shidiva Gold' is a smaller form of 'Aoyagi'. 'Shidiva Gold' is known for its bright green foliage, green bark, and compact structure. The leaves of 'Shidiva Gold' emerge in the spring with a bright, chartreuse green color that only slightly fades into a light green in the summer. This is a cool little shrub type maple very similar in growth habit to the many hime type maples but with a cool little deeply divided leaf. Growing just about as tall as it is wide this little guy with the interesting texture finds itself at home in any garden setting where it can be given a partial shade. Fall color is mostly orange.
