‘Gossamer’ is reportedly a cross between Acer japonicum and Acer palmatum dissectum. This cultivar should probably be listed as Acer japonicum x palmatum 'Gossamer' if this is the case. I have not seen it listed that way. No matter what you call it this is one cool little tree and deserves more attention. Very slow growing when young eventually reaching 10 feet or more with age. The deeply divided foliage almost appears linearilobum like. ‘Green Cascade’ is a cascading or weeping form of Acer japonicum. The leaves on mature plants can be quite large. These leaves are deeply dissected and in spring are a brilliant bright green. The overall shape of Green Cascade is quite different than most weeping Acer palmatums in that it looks more like a sprawling octopus, when young, than a tight bush.
