Acer palmatum
'Goshiki Kotohime'
The
leaves of this small upright bush are tightly clumped along
the ends of the branches giving 'Goshiki Kotohime' a unique appearance.
This is supposed to be the variegated form of 'Kotohime' and I have
been told that the plant shows some slight variegation or mottling to
the leaves in some climates, I have never observed this. Either the
hotter climate of the southeast suppresses the variegation or it has
been lost to cultivation over the years. For us this plant is more
vigorous than 'Koto hime'. New growth does emerge with pink or bronze
edges that only last a few days before turning green for the rest of
summer. Fall color is nice for a dwarf ranging from yellow-orange to
orange-red.
