Acer palmatum 'Butterfly'

'Butterfly' has striking variegation with mixtures of cream, pink and green in spring. In warmer climates the pink fades as summer temperatures rise. You should thin this cultivar, as it gets older, in order to prevent it from becoming to congested in the interior of the tree. Fall color is orange. There does appear to be two different cultivars being sold under the name 'Butterfly', while they are similar there is enough difference to indicate that they are distinctively different cultivars. One has yellow variegation in early spring while the other one is creamy white. Later in the season the variegation in both appear white.
